Finished engine bay wiring 6.0l

Finally had time to finish the wiring in the engine bay for my 6.0l swap. A quick explanation then the pics. I had the pcm in the engine bay first so that I could get the car started and tested. After everything was running correctly I decided to hide the computer and redo the wiring. The engine bay still needs paint and holes filled but you get the basic idea.

Re: Finished engine bay wiring 6.0l

Finished pic of pcm wiring harness. All insignificant wiring removed all the way to pcm. Skip shift solenoid, rear 02 sensors, etc. Wiring harness was bundled in powerbraid wiring wrap. A seals it grommet was used to seal at the firewall. A seal was used both sides of the firewall. A split grommet seal was used on the engine bay side. Wiring was run in original hole where the heater and fan box wiring was previously. A special wire routing bracket was made and wiring next to the exhaust was wrapped in silicone heat sleeving. Battery and fuse boxes all relocated inside passenger compartment.

Finished harness with exception of maf sensor pigtail

Seals it grommet installed. Had to be started one wire at a time from the maf sensor all the way to the pcm connectors

Wiring routed through old firewall hole and bolted in place using grommet

All wiring that is not seen from the top of the engine is routed underneath the engine at this point. Here the bracket is used along with the heat sleeving. If you look close you can see the 4awg neg battery cable post that grounds to the back of the block and runs through the firewall. Cable not installed in this photo. Also a seals it split grommet seal was used in the engine bay. A bit overkill but it looks good.

All connectors swapped to either black or dark gray color.

Glad someone else can appreciate my ocd with wiring. Thanks again for the easy but more easily overlooked trick of hiding wiring underneath the fuel rails.

Re: Finished engine bay wiring 6.0l

Im OCD too with my wiring. I spent about 3 hours saturday tidying up my inj/coil wiring. Tucking a little here, lengthening a little there, rerouting this and that. I really think Ill swap the black connectors on. Just hadnt though of that. If i do that for my bits and pieces harnesses too itll make life easier because the white coil connectors are the hardest to find in a JY. Black ones are super common

Pocket, your harness looks awesome. It takes a surprisingly long time to do wiring right. Your results show the effort. If you are interested I bought 3 pair of those black connectors new. Let me know if you want a pair or two.

Right on thanks. Once I repaint the engine bay I will probably go with a low gloss black. I think the flat black works well with the hoses, wire looms and the intake. But I think a low gloss will give it more of a finished look.

Do you have more pictures of your heater bypass valve hoses and the rest of the heater core hoses?? That looks pretty damn like stock the way you have it.

Re: Finished engine bay wiring 6.0l

The heater hose routing is completely stock except for the connections to the water pump. Stock hose runs from heater core to heater control valve. The other stock hose runs from the heater core to the stock heater pipe. This is the metal pipe that has the tee in it for the heater control valve bypass. After that it gets a little bit custom.

I only added two new hoses however. Added new hose from the stock metal pipe to the large inlet on the ls water pump. The other hose I added was a frankenstein creation. I went into the back of autozone and picked out two hoses that looked like they would work. Then i cut and sectioned the hoses. I installed a brass barb and joined the two hoses together. This made the backwards s shaped hose. This hose ran from the ls pump outlet to the heater control valve. Check the pics and let me know if it doesn't make sense.

Wide view. You can see the outlet hose on the bottom left. Catch can in the way.

Hose part numbers #3038 and #19025. Pic shows one hose already sectioned and the other marked for cutting

Hose on left runs to heater return pipe. And other hose runs underneath fuel injectors back to heater core. Both of these hoses are stock

Wow, I have to applaude you on that for sure! I like this approach much better than the normal route people usually go and just run two hoses from the inlet and outlet to the heater core. with the coil packs and wiring like it is the way you did it really makes it look more like the car came with the LS in the car from the factory.

Are these any particular brand? I like to let my fingers do the walking when I buy parts plus I dont have to pay tax and they come to my door

Im going with the same route with my harness. One question, how did you managed to get the injectors connectors trough the grommet?
Im gonna dismantle all my connectors, but I didn't know how to get the injector connectors off? I tried to poke them everywhere...

Re: Finished engine bay wiring 6.0l

Take a look at the seals-it-grommet website. They give a very in depth explanation of their products. They will tell you how far the seal can stretch depending on what size you buy. I stretched the seals it grommet over every connector you see in the harness with the exception of the ignition coil quick connects. The seal stretched over the fuel injectors without any fuss at all. I started at the maf sensor end of the harness and slowly worked my way all the way to the ecm connectors.
