Truck 5.3 in 89 Iroc

I have a line on a 0 mile truck 5.3 drivetrain and id like to use as many of the truck parts as possible. Its a 5.3 with a 2wd 4l60e accessories and harness/ pcm.

Ive got a 180k iroc begging for an LS swap

Can I find a pump/ regulator that would work with the stock tank?
Will the 4l60e will bolt in?

I read all the stickys. Theyre pretty good and explaining the swap to some one with a big buget or donor car, not too much about the more abundant truck setups.

and does a 4l60e bolt in?

Also in the sticky. Since it looks like you have TPI cars all you have to do is buy a Walbro 255 and put it on the stock sender, and add the corvette regulator.

What do you mean by "drop in pump power"?

I used a Walbro 255 pump in a 3rd gen EFI pick-up unit, and a Vette LS1 filter with built-in return and pressure regulation. Fuel line adaptation required.

An LS1 4L60E will bolt up to a 5.3l. It will not "bolt in" to the car, because the tranny mount is in a different place vs. the 3rd gen TH700R-4. You can either modify the stock crossmember, or get a $110 piece from Hawks that will bolt in. The good news is the stock shifter will work with the 4L60E.

Cool, good info, thanks again. Is it feasable to use the factory 700r4 tailshaft? Then I could run a later 88+ speedo electric setup and mount the torque arm too.

If you have a ram air or cowl induction hood 3"-4". you can use the truck front end accessories and the intake. Thats what i decided to use on my swap just to have a different look when i pop the hood. Vortec

700R4/4L60's use a 4 bolt tail housing flange. LS style 4L60E's use a 6 bolt flange. There is an adapter available but its more than the cost of the correct tailhousing

Grab one from a 98+ V6 Fbody which litters the junkyards

Re: Truck 5.3 in 89 Iroc

Oh ok, Ive rebuilt a few truck 4l60Es but never an ls style 2wd. Ive never even seen one for a 4th gen.

Dang, just sold my 4" cowl hood. It was a perfect blind spot tho.

Also, does a fly-by-wire with a pedal sound feasable? This truck setup truly has everything. Complete harness, acessories, trans.

DBW will work once you fit the pedal in there and run the TAC module

Re: Truck 5.3 in 89 Iroc

I know alot of guys try to eliminate the fbw throttle body, didnt know if theres was a reason other than not having all the proprietary doodads.

I would like to document the swap this summer, for now im trying to see how expensive it will get. Im hoping to stay under $1500 after buying the engine. If its obviously going to be WAY more than that, Im probly going to stop dreaming.
