Re: 5.3 cam

i put a few cams in a 5.3 that i had in a truck. 212-218-551-551-114---216-220-525-532-114---224-224-581-581-112--and finally 226-228-586-588-114+4 being the last.

the truth was i enjoyed the 216-220 the most.

Re: 5.3 cam

Okay, now we need context. What else did you have with it? Headers? Ported heads? Torque Converter? Axle ratio? Rear tire size?
Except for lift, that's the same specs as one of the 2 cams I'm considering for my 5.3 into my '84 Camaro: http://www.summitracing.com/parts/TFS-30602001/
Which should work perfectly with these: http://sdparts.com/details/gm-perfor...parts/12499224

Re: 5.3 cam

As he didn't get back to this, I sent a PM.
Here's what I got:
all i had done to the heads was a very slight cleanup at the ports on the intake. i had long tubes with carsound cats and a flo-pro muffler. axle ratio was 4.10. 2200 stall. with that cam i had a built 4l60e. i ran 13.98 in a 5150 pound silverado. cold air intake, electric fans, and a really good tune. it also had a really nice lope to it.
That should about equal a 3.42:1 gear in a Camaro.

Re: 5.3 cam

Fair enough. Since you didn't specify your tire size, I looked up the original tire sizes. 2WD was 245/70R17, which should be about 30.5". 4WD was 265/70R17, which should be about 31.6" Average, worn, is around 31"
Camaro tires are either 215/65R15, at 26", or 245/50R16, at 25.7", or 235/55R16, at 26.2", or 235/60R15, at 26.1" Average is about 26"
26" divided by 31" = 0.83871. That, times your 4.10, = 3.44
And since I'm using the 7.5 rather than the 9-bolt, the nearest gear is 3.42:1
Ain't math fun?

Re: 5.3 cam

Maybe the HotCam for the LS engines?

Re: 5.3 cam

Huh? I was just adding a suggestion that the OP look into the HotCam from GM for the LS motors.

Re: 5.3 cam

must have read it wrong.

the 285/50/18 tires were 29.6 tall. with that math above it comes to a 3.67.

Re: 5.3 cam

Cool, thanks. Close enough to 3.73:1 for my thinking. Basically, it just tells me that it was a fun combo with sporty gearing ( rather than economy gearing ).
