Finally made up a CAI !

Installed it this afternoon after a trip to Summit Racing. Spectra 4* 90 Elbow, Spectra straight tubing, K&N Union, Spectra 45* tubing and a Summit Filter. (Summit filter came in a K&N box with K&N sticker lol.) Running SD so no MAF.

Re: Finally made up a CAI !

It isnt a CAI if it is drawing hot air from the engine comartment. Nice to know about the air filter though, which part number did you get?

The air over in the corner is cooler than other parts of the engine compartment. I'd say it qualifies.

If that helps you sleep at night.....

I am surprised no one has thought to just make a "wall" that seals to the hood to make something like the OP did more cold air, like a lot of the aftermarket comanies are doing.

So far so good. I ended up throwing in a 5 pin MAF also. Not hooked up yet but we'll see. I wired it in the harness so I could use it if I wanted too. It goes to the dyno next week hopefully. I'll see what happens.

Re: Finally made up a CAI !

Mine is made of 4" aluminum tubing but I had the interior coated with a ceramic thermal barrier and the outside with a heat dispersent. That is an added cost but works. Plastic would be the cheaper way to go.

By the way going down the freeway at freeway speed my IAT was running 77F with the probe in the factory location in the plenum. So it does work.

Compared to a filter above the radiator, yes.
