Using '98 coolant temp sensor sender for autometer gauge

Kinda like the title says. I bought an AutoMeter electric gauge and of course it comes with the sender. Now on my ls1 I am using a '98 coolant temp sensor. So instead of putting the autometer gauge sender, can I just tap into the ls1 CTS wire and use that as the "sender" wire to the autometer gauge? I hope this doesn't sound confusing. I just don't want to put another plug/sensor into my cylinder head lol. Thanks in advance!

remove the plug on the opposite cylinder head and buy the autometer adapter then screw it in

That's my thing, I really dont want to put in another sensor/sender if i dont have to.
If the 98 CTS has 3 wires and I'm sure one of them has to be a signal wire reading the temp. If so, I would just like to splice into that wire and run it to the back of my autometer gauge that requires the "sender" wire.

How sure are you that the 98 sender is compatible with an aftermarket gauge?

If the ohm range of the autometer sender is similar to the range of the 98, why wouldnt it work?

Thanks pocket for the GM ohm specs. I checked out autometer's gauge ohm reading and the slightly differ from the GM cts. Guess I'll just run the sender where the plug is in the passenger head.

In the LS1/T56 car, I used an Autometer sender in the passenger side head for my Equis temp gage, and it works just fine.

In the other car, the Autometer sender did NOT work properly with a stock gauge, while the '98 factory type sender works fine with the stock gauge.

For what that's worth...

Re: Using '98 coolant temp sensor sender for autometer gauge

This s starting to **** me off. I bought an electrical gauge to ditch the hassle with the mechanical one. Now I bought the adapter 2277 that was told to use for the autometer sender but now that doesn't work! The adapter will screw into the head but the sender doesn't fit all the way into that 2277 adapter.

Now what???

I drilled out the adapter so the sender would fit through it. Just don't over-do it.

I'm starring at the adaptor and thinking of the same thing lol. I was just told I need the sender #2259 which I'll have to spend another $10 for this. Stupid, almost $20 just in fittings.
