if you aren't looking for super serious power, do the lt4 hotcam kit.

Re: Help with cam

That's where you need to specify what the applications were. A turbo cam is gonna be different from on specifically for all motor. I don't know which specific cam is good to go with for turboing. In theory you don't want a super high lift with a turbo and not as much overlap either. The reason for the lower lift is that high lift takes more to work, and the turbo is forcing the air in any ways. for the lesser overlap is because you don't want the charge to blow straight out to the exhaust. Do you already have the heads? These 2 places are highly recommended by alot of people on this forum and also on LS1 tech. They do ported stock castingsand get very good numbers. some one can point you into the right direction

http://www.advancedinduction.com/ (CNC porting)
http://elliottsportworks.com/?page_id=32

I plan on getting a set from Advanced Inductions in the future. They get the more consistant numbers because they use a CNC machine for the port job

Re: Help with cam

depends on how much money you want to spend. To make power you'll have to spend. I don't know if you have a good porting guy near you, but these guys get the numbers. At a bare minumum have them design a cam for you.

Re: Help with cam

All I trust him to do is the heads lol, the thing is how much lift would be perfect for a car most problaly daily driven, and at the same time put down good numbers

Re: Help with cam

I mainly deal with N/A setups, so I don't know what would be the ideal numbers you're looking for. I don't want to throw out a number that sounds right in my head, and mess up your engine or make it under perform. I'm directing you to some one who makes it their business to know the right number. If anything some where about .450" lift and and LSA of 114ish with 1:1.5 rockers. call one of the places tomorrow, and tell me what they say is the best grind. I'm kind of interested to see if my numbers in my head are pretty close to what would be ideal for a mild turbo cam.

Re: Help with cam

What you need is a company that isn't a garage with limited resources for R & D.That said you could call the tech line for Comp Cams and make use of their Cam Quest program on line.Tell them what you want and they will tell you what you need.If it is a flat tappet cam here is a article that might help you with a outline.

Re: Help with cam

that is a serious lift. what ratio rockers, what's the overlap and duration, who made it, is it billet, how much boost are you planning, what's your compression, is it solid or hydrolic lifters? How much power are you looking for? and is it going to be driven on the street at all, or is it strictly for the track? These are varialbles that need to be addressed before choosing a cam

That is bigger than the cam that I put into my LT1. But the one a I chose is for all motor, still street driven, but ready for the track.

Re: Help with cam

Is gonna be for both track n street block is gonna get bored out to a 383 forged pistons, fully built heads, lifters springs and the rest is still bein decided, the.engine is basically gonna be a.daily driven track ready car, car is.gonna get tuned by GM express racing, boost not decided on that yet either is most likely gonna be wats safe for the engine and give me good hp and tq, and those I want it to be a.surprise for myself lol

Re: Help with cam

so what are the rest of the specs on the cam?

I understand just building it to see what it puts out. you just don't want to put something in that will take the fun out of driving it on the street. Then you won't be happy til you take it apart again to replace the cam.

Re: Help with cam

have you decided on the pistons yet? make sure they are forged, and you want to be lower than 10:1 compression. Did you get a hold of GM express at all? Did they give any insight as to what whould be some ideal parts?

Re: Help with cam

sounds like forged crank and h-beam rods too. sounds like you're going radical. when it comes time to pick the turbo, i won't be able to help with picking one out.
