Ls1 swap with working air conditioning
Ls1 swap with working air conditioning
I have a 87 iroc and I am swapping in a lsx motor... I see people notching frames and all but very many actually get the AC to work... I was wondering what the hanging points on getting the ac to actually work.... I want get my motor mount.... And the purchase hinges on if i can actually get the ac to work....

Re: Ls1 swap with working air conditioning
Pretty sure lots of us have gotten the a/c to work. There are several ways to do it. You can mount your thirdgen compressor to the LS motor and avoid notching or modifying anything to your existing a/c...assuming it works.
You can get custom hoses to mate the LS compressor to the thirdgen parts.
Or you can use everything from the 4th gen, which requires some custom fab of the HVAC box to accept the evaporator. Im convinced there is an easier way to do this...like another evap that would fit in our stock HVAC box, but have the newer hook up. But what part number of evap that is, I have no idea.
If you get all the parts, get hoses that hook up properly, have the high/low cut off switches installed, and get it properly serviced, it should work fine.

Welcome aboard thirdgen.org, TeeBee8125.
There is a 4th option: Get relocation brackets from Kwik Performance and use a Sanden compressor. This also requires custom hoses, but avoids notching the crossmember or fabricating brackets. It also allows you to use less expensive engine mount relocation plates so you can use your 3rd gen V8 engine mounts.

I never actually got this operating, as I decided to go ahead and notch the crossmember for this swap (LS1/T56 into '82 Berlinetta). I completely left off AC from my 2nd swap (LS1/4L60E into another '82 Berlinetta) in which I used swap plates for the engine mounts, but have plans to get it going next year.

BMR tubular K-member (have to get the A-arms to go with it) for compressor clearance. Vintage Air for easy install. The only hard part is the second job to pay for it all.

Haha yeah hearing you have a procharger certainly changes things a bit
Also forgot about that 4th option of the sanden.
In your case Ide probably just notch and use the LS1 compressor. Or go tubular k-member. I cant help ya much on that since Im still running the stocker.
Ill trade you my 100% 4th gen set up with modified HVAC box and all the parts/wiring to make it work for the Procharger kit if that helps ya out
