I have read and searched all over this site for a couple hours today but have found no definate answer. What I want to know is, can I use my stock clutch pedal assembly with the LS1 master cylinder? What modifications are needed? If I can reuse my clutch pedals then I plan on leaving them in the car and making whatever mods are necessary to run the hydraulics properly.

Another question, would modding the third gen master to accept the 4th gen clutch line be a viable option?

Looking to get all this figured out so I can install my steering column.

Page 3 of my previous build thread has pictures and info for what I did to run thirdgen pedals. But there are other ways Im sure. Thirdgen pedals are THE way to go in my opinion though.

yes you can and agree with the above posts they are the way to go.

Ive used the 4th gen master on one car but the rest ive used the 3rdgen master and the 4th gen hose and slave. its just a matter of knocking the roll pin out the master to release the hose and then putting in the 4th gen hose and pushing the pin back in. this is the best way if you ask me. using the 4th gen master required a little work to the bushing.

 

Does the thridgen master work well with the LS slave cylinder??? I didnt know that it was compatible for some reason haha.

I guess they're pretty similar aside from that bushing size. But yes...if you can install the ls1 hydraulic hose to the master, and it pushes the right amount of fluid, that is 100% the easiest way to do it. Everything will bolt up and work great.

The thirdgen pedals fit better and are way strong IMO. I wouldnt go back to the 4th gen pedals if you paid me.

Good information! That makes sense... sure beats wasting money on an LS1 master and clutch pedal assembly. I guess tonight I'll install the master cylinder back on the firewall and see about ordering a LS1 braided line. Guess I can still use the third gen reservoir too correct?

 

Im sure you can...again...assuming the thirdgen master cylinder works with the rest of the system.

As far as I know, you cant order JUST the ls1 clutch hydraulic line. But, contact vendors such as Tick, and see what they can do for you. Or, just go to a junk yard and find a used line, do the drill mod, and clean it out.

Alternatively, you can build a line. You will likely lose the ability to quick disconnect from the trans, but lets be honest, that quick release fitting is anything but quick and easy sometimes haha. You can get the fittings to make the connections, and they'll have -an threads so you can just run whatever length braided line you want. To remove the trans, you'd just have to unhook the line. Hopefully you wouldnt be doing that very often.

Autozone shows to carry that clutch hydraulic line, so I'm going to check with them after work to see about ordering it. I'm going to try it out. Don't see why it wouldn't work... but if it doesn't then I'll convert to the LS stuff. Btw... I love your car, its one of my favorite third gens on here.

wow, for that price, i would just get a tick master and do the pin mod on the 3rd gen clutch pedal.

love my 3rd gen pedals, it was an easy modification....love my tick mc at 6800rpms too.

 

88formulakiller had pretty good pics of using a stock 3rd gen master with the T56 line

I would not purchase the OEM line for that price, by then you can buy AN4 lines/ends and build a new line and bleeder, then have cash left over

To the OP, dont forget about the upper bolt on the 4th gen pedals. The hole doesnt line up directly, some light modification is required to make it work. Dont leave it out

 

Whoa... That never existed before. Must be something new due to demand.

I know one thing, next time my trans it out, Im upgrading my line to -an fittings and eliminating that quick disconnect. Yes it minimizes mess. Yes it keeps MOST of the air out of the system.

But mine is never easy to take apart, or put back on. And Ive had two lines leak where its crimped. Plus I have my line routed inside the car, so I could use a little extra length.

For $160...no WAY would I use that. Tick master cylinder would be on my list. Or even a new GM master that already has it. At least you could sell off the master cylinder side probably.

I can vouch for the Tick master cylinder. After putting mine together & having problems with the stock one releasing properly, I installed the Tick & it works great. Plus it has an adjustable rod to control where the pedal releases. Wish I would have done it first instead of doing things twice.

 

I went through a stocker, a RAM adjustable (do they even exist anymore?), another stocker that I used the RAM adj rod on... then finally, the ONLY master cylinder Ill ever buy again for an F-body...the TICK. Love that thing. Worth every stinking penny.

I didnt know the Tick master came with the hydraulic line till I got on WS6Store.com and looked at them. That's what I'm going with, since Autozone wants almost two hundred just for the stinkin line.

 

You won't be sorry. The second you open the box you'll know you made the right choice. And the guys at TICK are great if you have any questions or issues.

Yep funny, sure wasnt then lemme tell ya. I couldnt even LOOK at the car for 3 months let alone talk about it, but now Im okay with it. As the saying goes; If you aint breakin? You aint racing

Gen IV bottom ends on stock components safe to 7500 rpm all day long. I still buzz it over 7 all the time and im using the "heavy" L92 valve and PAC1518 beehives. Going to freshen those after another season though

Anyways enuff hijack.....

Can you elaborate on the pin mod? I have the tick master and my stock t5 pedals .

 

drill out the 3rd gen pin and replace with a 3/8" pin from a hardware store.
