ls swap 5.3
hey folks this is my first post and hopefully I do it correctly and sufficient , but I have a question, Im wanting to do the ol ls swap in the 3rd gen eventually and I came across a 5.3 out of a 06 Silverado, that "got coolant in a cylinder and broke a rod" and its all taken apart but the lowest they will go is $450 on the engine is this good deal or should I pass and wait for another? plans would be to eventually put boost to it, and opinions are appreciated in advanced and thank you! and what ive read is that the newer blocks are aluminum? correct me if im wrong please and thank you

Personally I would. I mean if you get a block cheap, but then have to pour a ton into it just to make it right, it doesnt work out in the end. I mean with mine, my engine burnt oil and I did know that before I purchased it. I ended up dishing out 400 for new reman heads.
IMO (ofcourse) good luck with your decision

Re: ls swap 5.3
It hydrolocked and snapped a rod. Often the rod stub also goes through the block and/or bangs up the base of the cyl enough to ruin the block
FWIW, Ive had about 20 5.3s and never paid $450 for any of them, ready to run. They're throw away motors

Re: ls swap 5.3
im gunna pass on the deal being it snapped a rod made me wonder what else happened too, but I value yalls opinions and my search will continue thanks for the responses ;-)
Re: ls swap 5.3
I paid $400 for a complete 04 4.8 with 119k miles (including exhaust manifold's). Except for it being dirty, and needing to be flushed out due to sitting, it's practically pristine.
