New Starter For LS7
Looking for which style and what brand starter to use on my LS7 engine. I will be running Stainless Works 2" headers with a auto trans. Want recommendations based on your past experiences. Not worried about cost, just want something that will last and be reliable. Thanks.

Re: New Starter For LS7
I have an aftermarket starter with rotatable flange so I could avoid fitment issues. I'll find the receipt tonight. It's been good to me for 4 years.

Summit Racing receipt says Power Master 9509.
I have no idea how good or bad these are. Mine has been fine but I'm just a sample of one.

Re: New Starter For LS7
I have a powermaster 9009 on my car now and don't recommend it. They call it a mini but its larger then a factory starter had to dent one tube to make it fit thats with 1 7/8 blackheart headers.

Comes down to two choices. Powermaster 9509 or MSD 50963. Flip a coin. 🙄

Oh, mine isn't upside down, it's an offset gear reduction with solenoid on the underside. I made my own battery cables. If you look at the terminal layout the Powermaster is a lot easier to access with straight ring terminals.

OEM LS truck starter
Cheap, common, extremely reliable, one of the most compact designs, still uses a common ring terminal for the solenoid
Can't beat it. Have yet to see a LS it can't spin over at any compression

Went with the PowerMaster. More compact and able to be clocked for better clearance. The Stainless Works headers fit close. Stock starter did not work.
