i finally got the iroc i have been wanting.its a white 1986 iroc with a 305tpi auto trans,170,900 miles. i got it from a nice 40 year old lady that has been the original owner since 2 miles. she never did anything stupid to the car in or out, but she didnt keep it very clean either. she works on a farm and used it as a dialy driver for 24 years. so the interior was messy and full of dirt, exterior was muddy, and i still need to rack it to see wats under it. the title clean no accidents or thefts.im in love with this car its exactly what i wanted an iroc that needs work and that i can tear down and rebuild and tear down again if i wanted, an original iroc for a good price that needed work. what i fixed so far.
the water pump was leaking coolant and they thought it might have blown head gaskets when they sold it to me. so i replaced the water pump then when i was bleding the system it kept on blowing coolant once it reached 185, so i got terrified it was head gaskets, so i drove it to work and used the smog machine to sniff the cooland and found no hc or co present then my manager grabed the radiator cap and it failed turned out what we thought were gaskets was actully a $6 radiator cap.

trunk wouldnt shut, quick inspection and found pull down motor housing cracked, fixed that.

work it needs: temp gauge dont work , fuel gauge dont work, dash pad heavily cracked, carpet heavily worn, headliner fallen, original radio doesnt work, drivers seat belt locked, both rear seat belts locked and buckles broken, seats faded,door locks need to be greased, door look actuators dont work, horn, a/c doesnt work, LR and RR tires mismatched from fronts, hood and rear hatch shocks dead, engine bay is dirty,transmission fluid condition isnt very good, and i also plan on doing a simple tune up( spark plugs, wires, cap and rotor, fuel filter, air filters etc.)

what works: engine starts and runs awesome every time, power windows,power antenna, interiors lights, heater, engine cooling fan, passengers seat belt, passed smog.

for the last mont ive been dieing to wash and clean her, but the weather hasnt been normal for the season here, but finally got a brake yesturday and got some work done and took pics.

now today im going to remove the seats and shampoo and steam the carpet to try to get that dry dirt smell out of the carpet..

the pormise, if my 90 rs and the iroc need the same work i promise to do it to the rs first because ive had her longer...

jelousy??...ive been working on this iroc since thursday and this morning i jumped in my rs to go to the store and noticed a crack running down the dash pad, my perfictly good dash with no cracks on it sice ive owned the car one of the pieces of the car i was proud of the most now cracked...WHY!?!?!?!?....i think she got jelous.....lol....

Nice score! I just acquired an 89 Iroc minus motor and trans, but it is all torn apart and in boxes and bags. Glad you finally have the one you wanted!

yea i know its a 305, but i didnt want it to race or up grade to preform, i want a clean cool original iroc no mods or anything, now in the future i would like to swap an ls1 into my v6 rs.

Yeah, the 305TPI's aren't powerhouses by any means, but they are not gutless. Nice amount of torque and still some power up top.
