The $1000 1991 Formula

Well guys, here is the story. We went up to this house and asked an asian family if they would sell the car. The mom said she bought it brand new and had put all of the 165k miles on it. It needed things like brakes and all new sway bar links, etc. but I cant complain for giving them $935 and my buddy the rest of the money for a battery it needed. Does anybody know this factory color code? The woman said when the clearcoat started to peel she had GM repaint it. I assume the same color, but under the rear lisence plate it looks like maui blue or at least lighter. The hood is what makes me mad because of the three peeling spots that took it down to primer. I took the pullies off of the RS and put them on and added an air foil, and I also swapped the MSD coil off of the RS. Then I put MSD cap, rotor, and wires on it. It also has a posi rear.

The paint is kind of more crappy looking in person because the hood has the three peel spots, and there are a few more issues with the paint, but they are small. Not to mention they drove this car 20,000 miles in 8 years so it pretty much sat for a LONG time. I assume the asians never beat on it.

There used to be this 91 formula right by my house, and it used to just sit in the front yard, and every day I used to want to stop there, and ask them if they would sell it, and then one day going past it I told my buddy in the car tommorow I am going to stop, and see if the wanna sell it.......well next day it was gona, and has never come back I still think about what could have been if I would have just stopped earlier btw sweet find maybe one day I will have another chance

Check out the '91 Formula thread with my car, I paid three times that and the car is not in as good of shape. I looked for a couple years though and finally found what I wanted. Sometimes that is worth paying a bit more, I am not complaining! Congrats on the great find, it is my car's exact twin except for the auto. The paint code is listed on my thread. Your options should be in the rear compartment lid. I sent away for the complete package from PHS, well worth having.

As far as rust, there is no rust under the body. I found two small spots inside of the rear wheel wells, and on the right rear wheel well lip is a small spot starting. I have to get more pics though. Thanks for the comments guys.

Re: The $1000 1991 Formula

B E A Utiful! Gotta love those good deals! I bought an '85 Firebird S/E with 160k on the clock for $400. Didn't have a title (no problem for me, Maine only needs a bill of sale after it's 15 years old), and supposedly needed head gaskets. Picked it up, checked it all over in a friend's garage, and drove it home 400 miles, getting 23.5 mpg the whole way

Deals are out there to be had, just gotta be in the right place at the right time, congrats on your new toy!!

I'm with you on that Dan. A Formula needs it's proper trim.

You got a crazy deal on that car. My sister's '91 Formula is basically the same as yours but it's white. Probably has all the options yours has, power everything, ttops, automatic, etc. Hers had 136,000 on it and it was $2,800 so I'd say you got a deal on it. It looks like it's in good shape too, just needs a paint job.

And to answer your question about the paint, it's called Ultra Metallic Blue, and the paint code is WA9591, and I know this because it's the same color as my '91 Z28.
