Re: 88 Firebird

ok looks like it worked so heres the story, I got a free jet ski a while back and didnt really do much with it so I started browsing craigslist for a firebird or camaro, to see if hopefully someone would trade me, but I didnt think I would find anyone willing to do a trade like that, was just having wishful thinking. Was really hoping for a firebird because I used to have a 99 firebird, 3.8 with 5 speed and i absolutely loved that car. Had to get rid of it because wife became prego and she didnt like getting in and out of such a low car, so I traded it for a 96 blazer. anyways baby is older now so I wanted to be in a 2 door f body again. I really liked the third gens, and I really liked how cheap I could find one. So I came across this ad for the 88 bird. guy said it had a 350 in it but water was in the crankcase and that was something he was not willing to dig into to fix. I called him up and gave him my offer and it ended up being a 16 year old kid who got it from a friend for a dirtbike. Kid said he didnt know what all was wrong with it, other than the water in the motor. He lived about an hour away from me and he said he would bring the car out the following weekend. Kid came out and trailered the bird, knew right away i had to have this thing. kid was with dada and the dad told me if this deal didnt work out they were just going to drive to the scrapyard. The kid ended up liking the jet ski and pulled out the keys and title so we did the trade. I parked it at my parents for a few months while i was deciding what to do, either tear into the motor and in the best case find a bad intake or head gaskets, or worse case cracked block. decided to find a used motor because the thing had been sitting since 2007 with water in the crankcase, so i knew if i did fix it those bottom end bearing sure wouldnt last. Came across an ad, guy had a 350 goodwrench motor selling for pretty cheap. I had an old riding mower that I also got for free and went out to look at the 350, it ended up being locked up from sitting or something, so he showed me a 305 he also had, not locked up, good compression, 4 barell cc quadrajet on top. so ended up trading him the riding mower for the motor. on the way home i hit a pothole with my trailer and bent the axle pretty badly so i rode an hour home with a blown crooked *** wheel on my trailer lol. so I just started really working on it and have already dropped in the 305, just waiting to get gaskets, timing chain and water pump, then got to wire it all up. body is pretty straight, looked like they were getting ready for paint, only passenger side fender is kinda dented up, 100% rust free, ah the perks of living in texas, but the interior is burnt out, dash is a mess, no dash pad on top. My plans are getting her running then working on interior then move on to exterior. Just hoping the transmission works.

Re: 88 Firebird

Thanks, can wait til the day i fire her up for the first time. and my plans for it are basically return it to stock. I think these cars look perfect stock. I notice stock the third gens sit a little high, but thats fine with me. Im still debating on the color. I like the red interior, but def. dont want exterior red too. theres this gray ive seen, looks really nice was thinking of doing it that color or black. heres the gray i was thinking
