Lookin for....

Local L98 EXPERT!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am between bloomington and peoria so thats the local part. I have an 88 iroc 350 tpi with 76xxx original miles. It was fine 6 months ago but has since had a problem come up. First off when i start it I have to pump the hell out of the gas to get it to start(shouldnt have to on injection). When it does start until it warms up it has really rough idle almost to the point of dying. Not sure if these are related but number two problem is that regardless of whether the car is warm or not if i mash the gas it either falls on its face or dies depending on what situation im in. if i do it from a dead stop it dies, if im cornering it falls on its face for a second then gets going. I have only had one code come up and it was the MAF which i replaced. I was then told the problem was prolly the egr valve, which i replaced and that had no effect whatsoever. So Im hoping to find someone that really really knows what the problem might be.

Ps fuel pressure is steady at 38 to 40 psi from the second i turn the key on.

Thanks
TIm

Re: Lookin for....

have you checked for intake leaks around the runners? that would be a hard start/poor idle til it warms up.

Re: Lookin for....

Replace or rebuild the fuel pressure regulator. It is very likely leaking. When it leaks down after the car is shut off it is dumping fuel into the cylinders, thats why it runs really rich at start up and also the reason you have to pump it, because you have to get past the self flooding it's doing.

Def. check fuel pressure regulator, GM is notorious for the diaphrams going bad

Fuel pressure can and will be fine even if the diaphram is leaking internally. This is the reason it burns his eyes when he starts it, the diaphram is leaking and filling the cylinders with fuel. Same reason he needs to pump a fuel injected car to get it started, it's flooded.
