Hey everyone, I was a member many many years ago. I had a 1987 IROC-Z that my dad bought me when I turned 16. As life moved along, I went to college, my car got stolen. Police recovered it and we fixed it back up. Fast forward a few years...got married and had kids. Raising a family on limited income and I ended up selling my car. Regretted it from day one. Move forward a couple more years.. moved family to VA. For work. Lost my dad 6 months after moving and eventually back to MI.
loosing my dad made me REALLY miss my car as we had so many memories together in and around that car. I tried to substitute it with other F-bodies along the way and it wasn't the same.
Two days ago my wife surprised me with an early Christmas present and bought MY old IROC-Z back!
She's back home where she has always belonged and huge hole in my heart has been healed and I could not ask for a more awesome wife!
Wow, that's awesome! Sorry to hear about your dad, but great to have those memories together. That wife is certainly a keeper too, ha!
What are your future plans for it?
first to get it back to where it was when I sold it.
Then I plan on following through with the plans I had for the car back when I was younger. With a few tweaks..
Procharged LS swap with a 6 speed. Tubular suspension upgrades. Slight lowering and for body mods was thinking of 92 ground effects and wing and newer wheel and tire combo.
with just getting back in the swing of things, I am torn. Always wanted a cowl hood but now with the introduction of the actual louvers, I might just do the louver mod to retain the IROC-Z appearance.
fresh paint and interior and new stripes and IROC-Z graphics
Car already has a built 700R4 with 4:10's would be nice to have a couple extra gears for cruising so a 6 spd should do the trick

Very cool, post some updates on your progress as you go.
Thanks everyone.
dad has been gone since 09. A couple years after I sold the car. Which made it suck every time I saw a nice 3rd gen. I told my wife it's the best gift anyone had ever given me and she asked "what about when your dad gave you the car in the first place"?
I explained to her.. when dad gave me the car, there were no memories, no history, yet. This time.. she gave me a small piece of my dad back and that's something no one else could do. It was a very emotional present.
here's a pic from when I owned originally
Now I can build new memories with my sons as we bring her back and beyond her glory days.
Woo-hoo!
finally got the "gang" lined up and my new atlas 2 post hoist is going up this Sunday.
I think now that everyone knows my car is back home, they are all equally as excited as I am to see it all come together.
The mystical magical appeal of an IROC! Its amazing! Lol
Will, it's been a little while since I've posted.
and while I have DONE anything to the car. I have been getting things ready. The 6.0 is pulled from the donor. I have on the shelf, ready to go, the following:
