Looking to buy a thirdgen

Hey, my name is Chris, and I was wondering if you guys could help me out, I'm looking to buy a third gen camaro, and I would appreciate if you guys could help me get in the game by letting me know if any are for sale around NH, MA, VT, or ME. thats about as far as i want to travel, i live in southern NH.

Specifically im looking for a 305 or 350, 5 speed, ttops or hardtop, for around 2k, but definately less then 3k. doesnt have to be the best looking, but it needs to run and drive as I am planning on using it as my new daily.

Thanks in advance for any help,
Chris

Re: Looking to buy a thirdgen

well, as far as stock goes you will not find a 350 5 speed car. check out e-bay, there are usually tons of cars, maybe you will get lucky and find oune near you. also check out the classified section on this board as there are cars for sale there.

and welcome to ThirdGen.org

Hi Chris,

Get in touch with member tpi-hearse on here. He's down in northern CT, and always has thirdgens for sale, at various price ranges. Very good guy to deal with.

Re: Looking to buy a thirdgen

Great, thanks, ill PM him soon, Im going to look at a car tomorrow, red with silver stripes and silver ground effects, 5 speed/305

whats the difference between TBI and TPI, which one is better and how do I tell if the car im looking is one or the other?
I know its Throttle Body Injection and Tuned Port Injection, but throttle body injection sounds like... not a great idea, but i dont reall yknow much about it. Is there a link to a guide about these?

Re: Looking to buy a thirdgen

some say tpi is better some say tbi is better its really your own personal preference, tpi has way more emissions stuff because its more run by the computer tbi has less because not as much is through the computer from what i know, i have a tpi

Re: Looking to buy a thirdgen

Not many people will say TBI is better with a straight face. My opinion? TBI is useless in every sense of the word. Stock they make no power, and modifications are futile at best. Driving a stock TBI car and a stock TPI car is a night and day difference, especially 5 speed cars. There are a lot more mods available for TPI cars, and they will provide more rewarding results unless your idea of fun is to squeeze water out of a rock. If you're looking for a performance car and you don't want to do an engine swap, then a 350/auto or TPI 305/5 speed will be your best bet. Unfortunately, in both cases, you'll have a somewhat hard time finding a solid car in your price range with those engine combos. Most cheap TPI cars are either all used up, or have problems.

I have a truck and a blazer with TBI motors, and their only benefit is that they start in cold weather. Other than that, they're useless induction systems.

Re: Looking to buy a thirdgen

the one ive gone to see was utter and total crap. I definately didnt want that rust bucket. Im still in the market for one, but I might pick up another MR2 instead, this one is supercharged! needs a head gasket tho, and if it gets down to warm enough weather where i can do the HG outside ill probably pass on fbodies for now. So cmon guys, quick, someone local sell me your 305/5speed for under 2k!

Re: Looking to buy a thirdgen

Everything you find under $2k is going to be a piece of crap. You need to decide what kind of work you don't mind taking on... maybe you can find one with a good body and a blown motor, or a good running car that's been hit. Anything that moves under its own power and still has a solid body is going to cost you money.

You may want to PM TPI-Hearse. He's in CT and is always selling thirdgens. Most of what I've seen him selling looks like good stuff, and a lot cheaper than it would sell for in my area. He may have something worth buying in the $2k range, but I'd still expect it to need some sort of work at that price.
