MA emissions...I need a good answer

Hello, I have never really gotten a good complete answer on this.

What exactly does MA test? I have an 86z28. Do they do visuals?

an even better answer would be..
what can I take out of my engine bay?!

I really appreciate it!

Re: MA emissions...I need a good answer

wow another Mass hole, 95 or older vehicles dont pass emissions anymore the mass 31 test is gone since october. My 83 T/A they only checked for safety, I would not remove the smog pumpAir unless i know the owner of a shop who would pass me. plus the cops dont know what a smog pump is unless they owned a third gen Even if they do just say GM discontinued it and is with holding the licenseing rights.

1972 Oldsmobile failed for emissions when back in 1972 there were no emissions components on cars other than a PCV valve wow the guy who did test was an idiot. Vehicles were not tested for emissions until the 1975 model year when they first equipped cars with the dreaded catalytic converter.

Re: MA emissions...I need a good answer

Sweet man, thanks. So this is what im getting out of this... The only thing that we have to worry about now is safety things, and smoke coming out of the exhaust? I like to be very sure of things, so I don't mess anything up. And I might as well leave in the smog pump..and was this just a typo? "smog pumpAir" or was there a second thing as well?

Thank you!

Re: MA emissions...I need a good answer

Remove the Smog Pump/A.I.R. system, (it is one whole unit) it won’t make a difference and the catalytic converter too. The mechanic who failed that 1972 Oldsmobile needs to go back to school or have a drug test done because that car had no emission parts and it could never be tested for emissions. Unless your car is burning coolant or oil you should not fail.

What part of Massachusetts are you from?

Pre 96 is just safety I believe. All of your smog parts are suppost to be there.Vehicles after 96 have that plugin under the dash.

Ayup. They didn't even open the hood or look under the car aside from checking the ball joints. All good
