I'm not sure the details of how it would be setup, but I'm most definitely interested in expanding my 3rd gen horizons, meeting some new folks and racing for sure!
I'll put a link over in the So-Cal board to have them touch base here as well.
If it looks like a sure event, I'll sticky it shortly after.

It would obviously be North Vs. South type of thing (some take it too serious though) , we would need to set up differant brackets for cars of similiar setups, modification wise... No stock IROC against a highly modded LS1...
I remember a class for cars that were GM drivetrains, but not neccesarily F-body platforms. I would personally like to run my 57' Chevy in a class, as it does have a TPI engine and 7oor4. All of the little details will have to be discussed, but I assure anyone a good time, even if they run a stone stock carbed 305 or even an Iron Duke, who cares, it is all about having a good time !! Whether you run 18 seconds or 8 seconds, fun is fun!

Yup, I'll never forget the first time I ran down the 1/4 mile @ Famoso. You get all that adrenaline pumping. What a blast. For me next weekends test and tune will be fun. I just want to see what difference the few mods I've done(A/C delete, fiberglass hood, headers, no cat) will do to my time. I'll be sure to take pics.

Do you want to have a race, or just show up at a test'n'tune and have a get together? I dont think we'd have enough people for a race, unless we invited other cars to participate.

If it is just a meet and run, turn out will be much less than if we had an organized race, but either way....Fun will be had by all.

There is no question that NorCal has the better cars. We have the fastest vert (Mr.IROCZ), the fastest GTA (Del), the scariest custom (Brett), and a couple LS1 transplants. I'll represent the fastest LO3 after my exhaust.

Haha Mike.
From what I've read down south definitely has some quick TPIs and also some other well matched combos.
I know we have a lot of youth up here as well vs probably more experience, but that will be part of the fun.

Well 99% of our cars down south are Cali Smog Legal. But we are up for a challenge. We know this is all in fun. We got quite a few cars that are well into the 12's and some mid to low 11's. Nothing will be trailered from our group so don't you guys up north get scared. And as for me, afew more mods and I will be ready. So watch out!

Don't even worry about it Cameron, I don't think they are sweating our 13's at this point, haha.
1989GTATransAm down there is running well into the 12's N/A smog legal.
Who knows what else they've got. Should be fun!
I posted the address above so you can Google Map / Mapquest it.
About 4 hours away, Bakersfieldish.

Bakersfieldish will do. And I do know that they have plenty of smog legal cars that run NA and are in the twelves, they have several that I heard of. And hopefully I will break 12's with my bottle heater, then the Sac crew will be able to say they have smog legal car in the twelves, it just wont be NA
.
And what is the expected date for this racing, or at least an estimate?

And when is the approximate date for the racing, or at least whats be considered?

I can definitely help run it, as I helped with the 2000 Thirdgen Gathering, and put together the 2001 & 2002 NorCal vs SoCal f-body gathering.
The racetrack's website is http://www.famosoraceway.com/ and they have directions there.
The date for a get-togther could be June 2nd as they have a test'n'tune that day. If we have our own event, the track rental fee is at least $5000 for the day. Is anyone independantly wealthy?

Oh ye of little faith.
I will make a phone call to the track this week and ask if we can get our own lane like we did before. It will take a commitment of cars however, as we cant show up with 5 cars and expect special treatment.

Usually when you go to an eventlike this or a T&T the track is usually pretty understanding for setting up match races. Also if you go on a smaller bracket race they will usually let you line up against anyone that you wish if you go up together. Someone should contact the track and see what can be arranged.
I am sure something can be easly worked out.

Boo yah. A guy that knows how to get things done.
I'd be willing to estimate a dozen from up north that would make the trip down and could race.
I think 20-30 cars would justify a lane, or I'm sure like Brett said, they'd work with us for matching if we were prepared.

Famoso is a great track and one of my favorite places to run my dragster. They are very easy to deal with. I am sure if we bring 30+ cars we will get pretty good VIP treatment

Awesome, I've never been anywhere but Sac, looking fwd to it.
So where are the battle grounds being drawn at?
I'm assuming we claim central since most post here.
Everybody from Bakersfield up claims the north side?

I would say that iron out some classes and define battle lines.... Obvious a smog legal power adder car vs a smog legal stocker is no match. Just as a car that looks stock but has hidden goodies....
It would be fun to have like matched cars running eachother.
Would the Grapevine or Bakersfeild be a good point to draw the line?

I've seen their list before, quite a lot of members with a variety of times.
Looks like it was last edited March of last year.
I guess they didn't do much racing after March, haha.
I'm sure we'll have folks from 14's-11's to try to match up.
Just a matter of people committing and not flaking once it rolls around.

Hell no! We don't sand bag. You're right! The list is almost a year old. Not much racing the past year. But this year is different. Some made minor changes, some made major changes. For me, minor changes. The trick is to get a good combo and take it to the dyno and tune there.

So I've always considered myself Central Cali being from the "Central Coast". Where does that put me? Also, I have a stock L98 with 160+k on the ticker. The car is not factory(see VB Garage)but the motor is. I've never raced competitly/organized like this, so be patient with me.

SLO is about parallel to Bakersfield, I'd say you're part of the North side.

I don't mind either way North or South, when we ran years ago, I was part of the So-Cal group.....As mentioned, I don't mind either way, fun will be had whichever I am classified as.
Daniel, I may have you come over and help me put a 406 ci. engine in the 57' in the next month or so....

People can decide for themselves what side they want to join. Bribery is not legal.
I dont know how we can fairly do heads up with the wide variety of cars we have, but bracket racing is easy enough. We can qualify in the morning and run a 16 car ladder in the afternoon. Or just run the NorCal vs SoCal person who are the most evenly matched ET-wise.
The SoCal list hasnt been updated since last year because no one has beaten their best ET's since then. It doesnt mean we havent been out racing them.
Comp788, does Blake still work there? I havent been to Famoso since 2002, and he was the last guy I spoke to. If you know the track operators well enough, you can call them this week, and if not, I will.
Do you guys think we can get some Las Vegas, Lake Tahoe, and Arizona people out here?
Also, do the cars have to be registered and insured (street legal), or is it anything goes?

I would prefer anything goes... When a car is running down the track, street legal really does not matter, at least in my opinion. A fully smog legit car would have bragging rights over a trailer queen if it beat it, but only if the 2 drivers really care.

(What dates are we talking about again?)
Will this be all 3rd Gens or 3rd and 4th Gens?
As we get closer to the date we can make a list and see who's REALLY down to race and start a list, etc.
