New headliner?

Any of you CA. locals replaced your hard top headliner? I did a little search on the interior section. I just pulled mine and tried to repair it, but the old materials didn't want to stick anymore. I'm thinking about going with the aftermaket ABS plastics. Anyone done this yet? Pros+/Cons-? I may wait until I replace my seats and go with the 5 point restraints so I can remove my shoulder restraints from the roof. No headliner will be better than one flopping in the wind as you roll down the freeway.

So you've done yours? Are you happy with the fitment? Did you go ABS or stock?

Re: New headliner?

i did mine. i think it looks nice. i got a checker parttner black cloth at wal mart and a can of permatex headliner glue and some spray paint. i sparyed the back of it with the paint to stop all the garbage from flying off and just glued and wraped it. try not to break the little plastic things that hold them on because they are acctully kinda expensive. its also a good time to swap out the wearthstriping.

Re: New headliner?

I am in sac now and we have a bunch of camaro's in the local pick n pull. I could grab a good headliner out of one of the wrecks and bring it down to Visalia in the next couple of weeks if ya want.
----------
How do you mount a 5 point without a roll cage by the way?

Thanks for the offer, but mine is in good enough shape that it can be recovered professionally. I've just decided to wait until I get the roll cage and 5 points so I can remove the stock restraints. Meanwhile I go without one. I can't wait for my '54 to get done!

Re: New headliner?

I did the headliner in that black 92 Z28 I had a few years back... EASY ! and it looked great ! Cost me roughly 40 bucks total.

What did you use to attach the fabric to the insulation backing?

3M spray, something like 8880 or 8088... Genes upholstery on 21st street has it. You just need to lightly brush off all of the old glue from the headliner to make sure it is clean. It really is an easy job, just takes a little time.

There is a step by step tech article on here, the job is fairly easy and way cheaper then a replacement. Search the forum and you will find it
