Second Car

looking to get a second car. Any suggestions?sacramento craigslist is dull.

Cant be a v8, needs to get decent gas mile, and has to have some sort of aftermarket support with build potential

Suggestions?

Only looking to spend 1500-2000

Re: Second Car

90s Bonnevilles are reasonable and get good fuel mileage. If you go to the http://pontiacbonnevilleclub.com/forum/index.php Theres quite a few buildups they do.I'm not sure if you want fwd or rwd but this is a good suggestion for fwd

Re: Second Car

Well put Undercover... If you want a "commuter" u should state that. If you want a daily driver that you can build up later in the future then we need to know that too. Being as specific and detailed as possible is the only way for us to be able to help each other out here.

Re: Second Car

Not many options for a rwd import, I'd say probably a Miata if you're into those types of cars. I know a guy that has an 86 bmw 325i that he found for a reasonable price and fixed it up pretty nice..and i think he gets like 28 or so mpg? I'll have to ask.

240 is a better option than the RX7..rotary's are extremely fuel inefficient..

Re: Second Car

I'm all for a 240sx. Is this car just for you? Or are you carrying a family? The Fiero GT would be a great starter. Maybe a late 80s, early 90s Turbo Supra..... What's your flavor?

My second car is a Honda accord with over 250.000 thousand on it. Reliable, dependable, and Ac works great. Yeh I know rice burner but sure is nice when i am working on the camaro, for running for parts and gas price is great!

Re: Second Car

he is making a tbi 305 rs camaro into a low 13 second car with the juicy juice!

the supra is a good start but those hold values real well.

6 cylinder RWD's arent that common. same as 4 cyl rwds.

I think the 240 is the closest to what he wants. But I dunno. William is in the sac area so keep an eye open for him for a car

A bicicle gets great MPG. Actually I Think it's CMP (Calories Per Mile). But that's a good thing.

The Fiero GT comes with a 2.8 V6.. same as the camaros.. back in the day, there was a guy who was doin LT1 conversions and still pulling hi 20s for fuel mileage. TPI conversions were populAR on those also. Fun cars to act an a$$ in.

U are right about the Supra, but I think since the drift craze has died.down a bit, these card may not be as pricey as they were 2-3 years back.

Re: Second Car

My 2nd car use to be a 97 Ford Taurus, until we blew the head gasket. We sold that to a junk yard for $450 bucks. Now our 2nd car is a family car, 2004 Ford Freestar.

I'm a fan of the 240's, so I'd do that.

Re: Second Car

Honestly not a big fan of 240s. They are a dime a dozen out here. I mean one on every Damn street.

A fiero would be cool. Been looking in sac but no luck.

Miata might also be a good choice. Good suggestions.

Can't afford to own a supra right now, they are pricey to keep maintained.

Any.info on the fiero? Good aftermarket support? Good platform for a future project?

Re: Second Car

Yeah, those cars take a more creative mindset, rather than just scouring eBay for parts and kits. You could build a stout 4.3L V6 or do the 3800 supercharged motor (Grand Prix GTP), the L98, LS1, or LT1. It's totally on you. I was gonna get one and drop a V8 in it and make it a drift car, but at 6' 3.5" I could barely fit in the car

If you can, go to cardomain.com and check out some of the cars there. I believe the year range was from 85-88. The GT is the best looking one. I'll think of some alternatives in case you don't want a fiero.

Re: Second Car

You could put the Turbocharged 4.3L V6 from the GMC Cyclone. That would be sweet.

Re: Second Car

Still havent found anything in the area. Im keeping an eye out for a decent looking fiero though. and as for going FWD,im thinking on it. Pretty big into imports, have had a few Celicas and an 89 Supercharged MR2. If i do go FWD i wouldnt mind grabbing a 90-99 celica and dropping in a 3SGTE(from the turbo mr2's)

Speaking of Cyclones and Typhoons.... What about one of those style blazer? 4.3L V6, reliable, can be built later, parts are everywhere. Shouldn't cost more than 2500 for a pretty decent one.

I love a v8 as much as you. But theres nothing better than having a car that can pull 28-30 an still give a SBC a run for its money

Think im going fiero

Re: Second Car

How's ur search for a fiero going? I found one in Yreka. It was a maroon GT, 87 I believe. I had one of our members who lives there check on it. It sold yesterday for $500. It had a new fuel pump and ran great, the interior needed some work, but that was it. I was bummed to hear it sold.
There is another one in orangevale at one of the lil car lots on Greenback. It's a red 86, but not a GT. No price was advertised, but its always negotiable.

Re: Second Car

Sorry I am kinda late to the party I def have to agree with copchaser on this one. My first car was a 84 Fiero 2.5L iron duke with a 4 speed. car had 191,000 when I got it and needed minor things but ran great. I got mid to high 30's for MPG in mine and it only had an 11 gallon tank so it was really cheap to fill it. The Fiero's are such light cars they actually have a lot of get up and go for the size of engines they have. Just my $.02
Let us know if your still looking for one, I am looking for another one to so I keep up on the ones for sale around here quite often.

I am not even joking I drove all the time and my 11 gallon tank lasted me 3 weeks, granted I turned my idel down as low as I could and still have the car run lol.

haha vin. a tbi can get about 27-28 but all stock and that is really trying to conserve. but he didnt say anything about that. he said an import car getting 28-30 mpg and still being able to keep up with a small block chevy is what his goal is

Yezzir, something fun to drive with good gas mileage.

Havent found any fieros worth looking at yet, trying to avoid having to put any money into it. Found a few but all with mechanical problems i didnt want to hassle with, HG's etc.

Still looking, if you find one within 2-3 hours of sacramento post it up, need to grab one.

Can't afford to own a supra right now, they are pricey to keep maintained.

Any.info on the fiero? Good aftermarket support? Good platform for a future project?
only go for fiero gt 10x better suspension and handling. a fiero with a 3800 series II supercharged engine will net something with decent gas mileage, extremely fast, and handles like a dream.
