What do u think of TPI cars?
I'm not talking about making a post bashing on them and they die off at 5k.
I'm asking what do u think while your driving them.
I got the GTA out the other day and just had fun. Embarrassed a bozo in a new Mustang GT that couldnt drive a stick, just made me laugh. Also whacked a guy in a F150.
I know the car isnt the fastest and the "Ls1" is superior and yadda yadda. But damn, u plant your right foot and your butt goes back in the seat and the rear kicks out.
Doesnt that qualify as fun anymore? I cant say that I would ever complain about driving a TPI 350 car, as long as its running right, I still enjoy the hell out of it.

well for me since i grew up with the 3rd gen it has a special place in my heart, when my friends and i got heavier into the car seen we agreed that the f-body would be the dominating force we did many mods got plenty fast for a daily driving car.
to drive a 3rd gen is a reward in its self the car handles far more superior to any car in its class and can challenge many hi-dollar import cars.the 6cyl cars handled ok but my focus is on the L98 and Lb9 style suspension is at the peak of perfection, the hp level for a stock car is good,it accepts many mods that increased the power to the standard of the power freak!the interior is spacious enough for me,seating is quite comfortable excluding the GTA leather (imo)the seats feel like leather covered bricks!the exterior is top notch especially when they introduced the 91-92 z28 aero package those GFX made that car rock, the hi wing took some getting used to however completes the package!the trans am looked sweet as well, both cars had the flashy style that would get looks at every light especially when the ex.system was modded
glad i got another one its a 90 RS,i have the cool dashboard and will be installing the GFX to complete my fav.look as for motors i was going to put my extra Lt1 in it but i will stay with the L98 style(intake change of course) but definately pull the 5-spd in favor of the 6spd............

your right i love driving my 350tpi. It got good throttle response and it is very fun to drive. I always go out for a drive to just drive around town. and i love how if I do not have enough room to make a u turn just turn the wheel and hit the gas and my *** end swings out awsome. the 350 TPI is one of my favorite engines hands down.

I myself love my car....when i was a kid i never though about getting a F-body...or 3rd gen for the most part. I was more of a monte carlo kinda kid, because i loved seeing Earnhardt (not jr)
driving those mean machines to victory lane..
But the first time i bought one when i was 16, i loved it...that love lasted!
Learning the history of the TPI 305 or 350 is something that's so un-appreciated....it's pretty fuel effient when it's running right and plus it's torque is unbelievable! it's as much as 4th gens without the ram air! As Jer said, you floor it in cruizing and it's just fun!
it's all of a raw engine that can do alot ...and able to increase it's power potential make its something people to envy!
And really the computerize system isn't really much more then information being retreived and sent out and you can even reprogram that kinda information, it's very adjustable!...you don't have no stinking PCM that control alternator voltage current and body control modules..hell i can live without ABS or an air bag!...etc.
The fuel consuption is just as good as todays SUVS..and would be better with exhaust flow (pulses), fuel control, air induction, and basically the driver who can make it so.
It makes me proud too, when i have my car in the shop and people look at it...asking what year it is...and finding their reaction with a aww in the their face, "it's that old?"
Yup and it's a fine tuning machine that can do what i want.
Thanks GM for building these short blocks of the 80s...it was my era.....thur the testament of time it will keep going!..I'll make it so!

Well nothing looks so sexy as a TPI under the hood. Its like a bad *** spider crouching over the engine bay. And if you have a polished setup, or an aftermarket setup like the AS&M's which look as good as they perform then its even better. I miss it. But still want to go faster. Be nice to have 2 TA's, one to keep TPI and one to go gonzo on. Sadly, just 1 TA is all I can afford right now.

I like the instantaneous throttle responsiveness and the idea that the TPI is very much at home on all sorts of different sizes of small blocks (strokers, etc.) without doing major modifications. I'd like to ride in a thirdgen with a 383 or larger CI eng. with a TPI. Talk about TORQUE!

Ya gotta love the torque of the L98! I personally love TPI's! At least according to my last memory driving the car I loved it LOL! It was nice to embarrass idiots who thought they were hard asses....I had everything from stupid kids to an old guy (probably 50+) try to race me at a light in his Lincoln mark 8 LOL. I did however just turn and laugh at most guys who tried to race me, as I'd rather save my gas then waste my time. It's not the fastest car around, but it was a blast to cruise in.....I loved being able to just hop in the car and cruise it down Lagrange Rd and back after a long night of working on homework LOL. It was a nice stress reliever!

I'd definitely like to have one for a daily driver again if it made sense. They're so fun to drive. What a stress releiver!

Then you should have a VERY strong L98.

I know about B&M being crap, but I'm already locked in a deal with a complete rebuilt trans for cheap and it comes with the converter. Next year I'm going with some new heads, hopefully AFR and a new Edge racing TC

TPI is tons of fun. My LT1 runs 12s and is a blast to drive, but there is something about hopping in the old iroc and ripping down some county roads that the 4th gen just cant match. I sold my iroc in may of 03 and it felt wrong. I went a whole year without a 3rd gen because I lived in a dang appartment complex and had nowhere to park a second car. Once I bought my house Ive had as many as 4 of them here at one time. Im down to 2 right now and soon to have only one. But that one year was the longest ive been without a 3rd gen since 1999 and hopefully it will be the longest I ever have to go without one. I dont care what you sell your 3rd gen to buy, there will always be something in the back of your mind dragging you back to one and sometimes we come back to them like I did. It just must be that TPI torque or something
