Got some head yesterday
LOL
made ya look, but I got 2 heads yesterday!!! I ordered these Brodix Track 1 100% cnc 227 heads April 2nd and shop called 1 week later and said they'd be in Fri April 13th!! Normal lead time is 3 weeks, but this shop I bought them through does alot of spec motors using brodix heads per rules and they got mine in, in record time!!! Just waiting to check on my shortblock this coming monday and will hopefully be strapped to a dyno first part of may to break it in and tune (pending no problems)
here's some pics

Re: Got some head yesterday
I'm hoping to be in the area your at ET wise...just gotta figure out how to lose some weight first. Started adding up all the additional weight of the new engine, finishing the cage, etc...and it's not looking good
pretty stupid I gotta build something like this when I could get a lighter car and build alot less motor to get where I wanna be at.

So i'm not going to say i'm jealous, but my car is a lot lighter than yours, so if that motor needs a nice home to go into, let me know Josh. Those heads looks like works of art that CNC machining really looks good around the guide area as well.

Re: Got some head yesterday
I was actually entertaining buying a new car that I just found out about....but I have enough irons in the fire and am making money selling it for the guy-actually sold it today when I stopped by my ford racing buddy's on teh way back to IA and told him about it
Just have to line it up next weekend...mo money-mo car parts

I was going to go in and sand down the little ridges the CNC process leaves behind so it's smooth-esspecially in the chambers, but the shop I ordered them through said they have'nt seen enough gain by just doing that alone and said to wait for if/when I get them hogged on even more, so I can do it just once. We'll see how this year goes and how the engine fars. I plan to send them out next winter and have a guy go through and give them a maximum port job and then upgrading to all titanium valves, as well as the new titanium retainers....I would like to see the motor after this pushing well over 700hp

sounds like race car parts.
Good luck with it and keep me updated on how it all goes together and how it runs.

Re: Got some head yesterday
First and foremost, I knew AFR was going to release the 227 eliminator series heads that were going to flow serious numbers....but the biggest thing was a time issue, they just started working on the 220cc head testing and porting to maximize that cast, so the 227's as AFR told me would be available in '08 sometimes.....I wanted to get my car running sooner than that.
Second, flow numbers: I talked to an inside guy at Brodix that used to work in our local head shop and asked how acurate their advertised flow numbers were on these heads....he told me they are very accurate, so it puts them flowing better than the current AFR 227 heads
Third, Eveerything i have is set-up for standard 23* stuff, the AFR 227's require a different piston to compensate for the 60/40 valve spacing. I called JE and asked if my current pistons would allow fly cutting to run the 60/40 split, they said they could, but it would be a veery hald azzed way of doing it and I should just order new slugs and have it right the first time....my biggest motto
If I was going to have to change the pistons I would'e just opted to go 18* stuff instead since I was buying all new parts for the top end anyways. Not to mention there is plenty of debate about having to run offset rockers/lifters to bring valvetrain geometry back in line...I already had issues with my AFR 210 intake rockers being off center on my intake valve. If it were'nt for the valve spacing issue, I may have opted for the AFR's since I had great luck with them last time, but now I have a run of the mill 23* head that flow excellent numbers and I dont have to do anything exotic to make them work. Even being 100% CNC's there is still room for growth in any head, so we'll see what it does this season and go from there.

If you have these heads flowed let us know the #s I started my 434 today I have the Dart cnc 227s Hope to try it out next month at the track. And if any one is debating between heads I have flow #s from my Darts thay are not as high as dart states but are close but we all know we cant race flow benchs or dynos.

I do know when I took my AFR's to them yrs ago to have them checked and flowed, I took about an hour to go through their flow catalog they keep of every head they flow so I could compare my 210's to darn near every make of head on the market that's come through their shop to date. The one and only thing that stood out above all the other heads, was the Dart's seriously under delievering on TRUE flow numbers when compared to what they advertise. I do not recall seeing sheets on a 100% cnc sbc head so I have no idea where they are at compared to what they advetise....I did pay special attention to the Dart Pro 1 230 heads since the S-10 has them and my BIL runs them, as well as many others at the track I run...let's just say the advertised and actual numbers, are waaay off the mark. the MAX I seen on out of box 230's was 268cfm....The dart castings leave alot of material for one to go in and hog them out, BUT I'm sure you know, any tom **** or harry cannot just pick up a carbide and start removing material and make it work to their advantage...on average our shop charges $1K to port heads....so now you have a set of $1600 heads you now have to dump another $500-1000 epending on the shop to get them to flow what they advertise....this turned my completely off of Dart products all together. There is enough mid information out there as it is, and to think these companies purposely flow on larger bores to increase numbers just to sell a product...makes me mad, I dont like smoke and mirrors one bit, especially with what these things cost initally, you should at least be getting what you pay for. And for the record as to my shops Super flow 600 bench and my AFR's, they were within 2 cfm at every point +/- of what AFR advertised.
I wish I had time to flow these new ones, but unfortunately I wont until I send them out next year to have them maxed out and they will perform before/after's on each port to show the difference in all aspects of what they did.

Yes I know about Darts other heads. And the person I use for my heads logs down the info on all the heads he flows also. I know of a few racing buds that bought the 230s and did not get the performance thay wanted. The 227s I have flow 299 and some change and that is with a 30 deg back cut on the intake valve wich will lower peak #s but the low and mid lift #s cam up. I like the Brodix 227 head but I also have seen the as cast heads from them not flow there #s but thay still make cars run fast. If the Brodix 227 was out when I was looking for heads (almost four years ago) I woulde have a set of them I belive.

As it stands, I'm hoping for an honest 650hp as it sits. I dont know how much running the E85 is going to come into play if that will increase output some more or what...I will see once I'm strapped down on the dyno, but I dont think that goal is unattainable from all the guys I've talked to that have dynoed motors with lesser heads/cam than I have now.

a friend of mine is building a new 427 stroker and went with 18 degree's because he couldnt wait for afr either. He ran afr's on his old 383 with great luck, but the new mtr should rock.
good luck with the new build.
good luck with the new build.

Re: Got some head yesterday
Yeah, these are going on my new 427 sbc I got a good deal on-was a new Huntsville motor in December of '05 a buddy I race with burnt 2 rods and scored the crank. He paid $6885 for the short block when he bought it, I gave him $2500 after he had the block checked/touched up so block was ready to go, and he sent the crank back to callias and got that fixed...just waiting on my machine shop to get it bolted together so I can get the top end assembled and get my pushrods ordered....still waiting for my sanding rolls so i can get my new intake ported/cleaned up.
I picked up a belt drive fuel pump today I'm going to try. Have'nt had any luck with electric fuel pumps of any brand, so I got a killer deal on the pump set-up I got, all I need is the 3 way safety fuel shut off valve and I'm good to go...should be interesting to see how all this works.

The one time in my life I was at the right place at the right time LOL!! He already had his new 565bbc ordered up and was looking to recoup some money to put towards the new bbc....I happened to be drinkin adult beverages at the race shop where all the buddies run BBC's so I was a shoe in, he was feel'n no pain, I had my check book in the truck, and I jumped on it without asking any questions, as you can well imagine LOL!!
