13's?

Why such a low total timing? You're not running any boost.

Carb spacer is a tuning aid. Unless you've played with different spacers on a dyno, you'll never know if what you're using helps or hinders the engine.

13.00 or better if your lucky. The gears hurt you a bit, a 700r has a deeper first gear.

13 is probably a safe bet, could hit 12s with good traction and better gears.

ive been told these heads only like 32-34 total timing and when i had it at 36 it felt weaker up top. i'm runnin the spacer cause it came with my studs, which are too long to run without the spacer. figured it wouldnt hurt

Re: New setup at the track, Bring on the predictions!!

I've read a lot of builds with those heads and most were around 34, some 32 and 36.

It shouldn't feel weaker unless it was detonating. If the same power is made at 32 and 36, then 32 should be used obviously.

Re: New setup at the track, Bring on the predictions!!

I'll say low to mid 14s after some tunning. That 274 cam probably don't make any power past 5800. Does comp cams still have their dyno graphs on line. The spacer is probably hurting more than helping. Stock heads and no headers = very low flow.

I say mid 13's. I had a spacer and it was causing my car to rev like crap and crappy throttle response. I had a RPM on at the time.

i'm going to say 12.80s

Also most vortecs just want 32 degrees since the combustion chamber is more efficient. I've done this a time or two now with vortecs

Re: New setup at the track, Bring on the predictions!!

thanks for all the responses guys... I'm really not sure what its gonna run so all these different answers have got me even more excited to go.... i was gonna head to GLD this weekend but they have an event goin on so it will have to wait another week

if i even get a 12.9xxx at 104~ or so i will be happpy cause i know there is more power to be had through carb tuning..... and spray!

dyno graph http://www.compcams.com/Technical/Dy...74H-10_001.asp
the only differences here i have 1.6 rocker so the lift is 520 and my compression is 9.5:1

Re: New setup at the track, Bring on the predictions!!

i would not be happy with 104 mph my stock vortec run 102.43. u should be in the 107-112 range. which my camaro i aint showed me anything great and its about the same cumbo but has trick flow heads and best time on street tire has been 13.30 @105.99. which i going to trying runing it again this weekend. it had alot of converter slippages last time changed converter.

Re: New setup at the track, Bring on the predictions!!

I have noticed that you have had a lot of different estimated ets. I think that all of them are possible. Your combo is relitively mild and seems well thought out, and that is what usually works out.
I think that a 12 second pass is very possible, but if it were me I would expect somewhere in the 13s to start out. Most new combos have a few bugs to work out, so I would not set your hopes to incredibley high for your first pass, and avoid any dissapointments when it does not run then high 11s somone else was able to get out of a similar combo, which seems to be incredibly fast to me.

that better do 12's or i'd be upset. Bolt on L98's are low 13's all day with 2800 stall 3.23-3.42 gear

I went 12.52 @ 108 with a 10:1 Vortec/XE274 350 and no tuning whatsoever. You should easily break into the high 12's with a combo like that assuming you have a "common sense" tune on the car.

I once had a "pro" engine builder/tuner tell me my old Vortec 350 would run "low 13's at best." and I also had quite a few people tell me my current motor would run low 12's

very good to hear that sounds like our combos are pretty dead on... it seems to run really strong so i think my "common sense" tune can put her in the 12's

Re: New setup at the track, Bring on the predictions!!

exactly... some ppl told me i'd be 12's... but i'm mid 11's and 10's on spray. vortec heads make power and that cam is big enough to push a car into the 12's with a decent tune

First time out may NOT produce the slips you want but eventually the car will get there

was that with a drag radial? goodjob. My prediction was way off. I was thinking u had a tune port. my bad. put the et streets on, with 1.7 60 ft youll be well into the 12s.

yep, you have the mph to go mid 12's. just need to launch that thing in the 1.7 60 foots. More gear will really help that car too.

nice job

My mental dyno is pretty good I see a pretty easy 12.50 on a tire.

Don't get ahead of yourself... your car ran good, about what I expected for MPH.

Lol. A good bolt on ls1 probably runs low to mid 12's. You're gonna need a bit more power to impress them. A bigger cam will help a little, but a 50 shot would be your easiest bet.

yeah, i know of bolt-on only ls1 cars running upper 11's on ls1tech...i'm shooting for 11.5x's with a little 212/219 cam and full bolt-ons.

its all in the driver for the most part i think... yes 11's are possible on a tire in a well setup car, but as you can see in the vid i walked an LS1 with an exhaust

most heads/cam ls1's around me are barely 11's... i find that sad as many on tech are in the high 10's
