shifting into fifth at the track?

My brother's 89 Formula 305 tpi 5 speed has 3.45 gears (confirmed; we removed the cover last night). We were really surprised it didn't have 4.10's b/c he's at about 5200 rpms going through the trap at 90 mph. This is stock size tires and transmission is out of an 86 T/A that appeared factory. His last transmission is the one it came with and it did the exact same thing. Are you 5 spd guys running at 95+ mph shifting to fifth or do you have this problem? Is fifth an overdrive gear?

I barely get have to go to 4th with my '85 L69 HO, 3:73 posi, 5sp. My best run was 15.5 at 90mph. that was at about 90 degrees and 80% hum...

I'm nowhere near 5-gear at 98mph, end of the 1/4 mile. Yes 5 is an OD gear.

Not getting into fifth @105.5 at end of 1/4-coming across line at about 5200.

Why would his car go through gears so quickly if he has stock gears?

my fourth gear tops out at about 110 at 5200 with 3.23's.

there is a possibility of 3 things that could be happening. The lights at the track are messed up and you are really pulling 110 mph. your clutch could be slipping or your tach might be way off.

When was the last time you had a new clutch?

I didn't have to shift to 5th until 120 mph in my '94 Vette with 3.45 gearing and a ZF6. Both our 4ths are 1:1 and tire diameters are the same.
