NPB Again 8.78 @ 151 at MIR.
Drove out to MIR yesterday with VEGA..
First pass off trailer with no changes went 8.86 @ 150 w/1.256 60ft
Second pass lowered wheelie bars to 3" from ground and obtained new best
of 8.78 @ 151.6 w 1.237 60ft.
3RD pass took launch rpm from 4200 to 5200 and ran 8.81 @ 151.5 loosing slightly on 60 ft back to 1.247.
4th pass launch back to 4200 and timing from 36 to 38, ran 8.80 @ 151.7 with another 1.247 60ft - Think track was going away.
5th pass decreased intermediate airbleeds from #70 to #68 with no real change 8.80 again @ 151.7 but 1/8 MPH picked up .2 and 60ft was again 1.248 now - Track deffinetly going away.
6th pass decreased airbleed to 65 and lost running 8.86 @ 151.2 and 60ft again decreased to 1.267..
Was a good day, got lots of passes and left early 3:30 on 6pm shut down due to 5 hr drive. Car is breaking up a little on top end right through traps at around 7300-7500 only in top gear that I feel - have to investigate that a little - seemed to happen all passes, thought it smoothed some with the intermediate change, but second increase did not help at all..

Thank you all - As orr said I can hrdly take credit for much of it, mainly air and a great track (Maryland International Raceway) which I love - other than the fact that they have a towel guy in the bathroom that wants a tip - ridiculous..
Unfortunate the car did not respond to much that I did other than the wheelie bars which I assumed would help some - But then again temp was increasing throughy day but humidity dropping..
I do think I was leaving 1-2 MPH on the table as top gear was breaking up right at traps.. STill unsure why..

Pressure might be good but maybe it's not getting enough volume at the top end. I would have guessed pressure as well. Maybe you need a top end timing retard?
When my car was nosing over on the top end many years ago, it ended up being the heads not flowing enough air for the engine. Swapped out some oval ports for some rectangular ports and the engine now pulls hard going through the traps.

Thank you, yeah it has been a good engine for me - just wish it made a little more power.. May convert to alcohol this winter, that should pick it up some, and Maaaybe get heads ported..
Here is horrible and long in car video attempt - very shaky, tech stopped me to show me a rock that fell out of fender, and I thought they were gonna run me with blazer in other lane so I started Burnout - got stopped and restarted.. Looking like an amature up there..lol But you can get the idea I guess..

Jump ahead to around 3:30
Wow! And I thought my in car camera was shaky. The audio didn't sound that bad. You say it's breaking up at the top end but I never really heard it.

Want more power ehh??? Lol you dont need alcohol...you need cylinder heads and a real camshaft. LOL
I have a 468 with afr heads untouched and a solid roller that made 824hp at 7200rpm. No tricks..it went 9.26 twice in a row last week in a 3485lb chevelle..no alcohol.
Good luck getting her fixed up!!!

I think Alcohol will ad some power, - But I agree heads need work, AFR 325s untouched little on the small side..
I can not really hear breaking up in video either, but I hear in car for sure - Not really breaking up bad, just gets really rough sounding if that makes sense.. I ll check my replay tach, it may show it some.. Makes me think valve springs the way it acts, but they are brand new..
Matt, my gloves were beside me in car.. I should have had them in more clear view.

Yep, the 325`s were perfect for the old pig that motor was in, but now in the light car, it wants, needs more. Did you set your springs up .050 before coil bind? Bit me in the rear this year, came out with a new combo, springs good to .900 and only pushing .775 thru the exhaust, sure enough broke a lifter wheel in 9 passes .
You could squeek some more HP out of it but theres not much left on the table, as I recall that thing was making low 800`s already. Dual domy`s, cam specific for the light car and glide and some work to the heads, yea you might find some meat on the bone still, but it wont be cheap to get it IMO.

What springs for the cam? THey adequate in pressure for the lobes? Diameter of spring with its natural frequency ok for the rpm range? Just curious. I know alot of that stuff about springs is important to consider, not just pressure and lift range alone.

AFR-8031 1.625 OD 275# @ 2.000 Pacaloy 1.100 629 850
no stripe .851 ID 810# @ 1.150 Pac Racing Springs #1224
Greez, I agree I should more tailor the engine to this car, still using converter made for the heavier Camaro with 3 speed - though with heavier car with deeper 1st its probably a close trade.. Cam should be more tailored to this chassis.. Thanks for the compliment!! Yours still sounds better
