Earlier today I pulling my lowered 89 RS up on the trailer listening to the chin drag all the way up the ramps. I got to wondering if anyone has ever heard or thought of a way to make our chins a quick release. Something that you can pop the chin off the car and pull the car on to the trailer, and when you get to the track just slap it back on without removing and reinstalling all 100 of the bolts.
Have the same problem with mine , see it a lot on the open trailers. I know this is not what you are asking for, but we slide a 2x4 under the front of the ramps and it gives us just enough to keep from dragging the bottom of the nose cone. That is with a VFN nose though. It is a very sturdy fiberglass peace, I am sure you could come up with a way to make it removable for a more permeate fix.
I ordered one of these hitches for my trailer, and have loved using it. My trailer only has 4 ft slide in ramps...that's not nearly long enough for our cars. All I do is drop the leg, crank it...pull the back pin out, and then crank it to my desired height and reinstall the pin to keep it from moving. The nose never scrapes.
drive the car on some 2x12s before you get to the ramps, thats how i get mine on with no hitting....i refuse to let it hit. gotta pull them out before the rear tires though or it spits em out. also putting the tow vehicle up on a curb or the like helps too.
That is a cool looking hitch, I might have to look into one. How long of a 2x12 do you use. the dove tail of the trailer is 9 inches off the ground and the nose of the car is 5 so....

on the stock ride height rs one 2x12 on each side in front of the ramp is enough to get it up. on the lowered 94 z28 2 2x12s stacked and screwed together on each side gets it up....pulling my tow vehicles up on a curb and leaving the trailer in the road or parkng lot also gets the 94 on with no 2x12s. these are on tall u haul car haulers. not even a dovetail.
as for length id say about 5 feet, long enough to get the front of the car on the ramps, short enough to get them out before the rear tires try to get up on the 2x12s
googled this real quick, this is something like what i do, but his set is much longer, and higher than what i need to get the job done. like i said, once the car is halfway up the ramps, i like to get the boards out before the rear tires hit so the car doesnt spit em out. scary feeling lol.
Air bags in the front would be one way to do it.
Or cylinders that bolt to the bottom of the a-arm like a 2WD S-10 shock.
The latter would be less work to disassemble, but I'm not sure what you'd use.
