Camaro vs. Firebird... its in the family, no need for a feud.... but...
I'm willing to make an exception sometimes...
Stormshadow... don't toy with us Camaro drivers like that... we've got the same car you've got except we have better looking taillights and we don't have to worry about our headlights winking at everyone after awhile...
Personally, and speaking for a couple of other Camaro owners... I think as long as its in the family, its ok, but once you start a family feud (IE F-Body vs. F-Body) ... you may want to think twice about the things you say... Interior wise, SOME Firebirds were better... Personally I like the dash and center console for the Camaro's better... the door panels I enjoy as well...
I have nothing against the firebirds in general, be it V6, Formula, GTA, TTA or whathaveyou... but if you want to start picking them apart I'm more than willing to go against ya... I just prefer the Camaro over the Firebird because personally, I like the headlights, I like the frontend, I like the taillights and I like knowing that not all people know Camaro's and Firebirds are the same line... but moreover... I like the Camaro over a firebird for plenty of reasons... driving something that by any other means could be barbeque chicken doesn't really appeal to me...
Would I own a Firebird? if it was the right one, yes I would, but would I take a Firebird over a Camaro? probably not unless it was a TTA or Firehawk... but then again I'd keep em stored and I'd drive what I've always loved
What does a firebird have that a camaro doesn't aside from a few stuckup drivers who can't get their heads out of their asses to realize that they're the same family, one and all... a few differences, but hey, thats the whole point of it, I'd rather not be Amish and have everyone driving identical cars... (or in the case of the amish, horse and buggy hehe)
You keep your white lightening, and I'll keep my hellfire and brimstone

Humbling post Demon, after looking at the pace car on e-bay, I could not believe the possibiltes of that platform. My jaw dropped and even though I'm just a newbie, I could appreciate what Chevrolet had to offer for the 3rd generation F-Body.

As a T/A owner, it would be nice to see what Pontiac had to offer for that genre. I would be surprised to see if there was anything close.

Demon, That was harsh!
We need to remember, half the fun of bashing on eachother is the fact they are the same car. The difference is no worse than having a different color paint and some ugly body mods on those BBO'd poultry models. That and my mother-in-law drives a 92 chicken so I'm required to hate them as much as I do her.
I'll agree it's getting a little serious though.

I restrained myself... I have loads of respect for Firebirds... but when you make a consistant thing of bashing camaro's even nice looking ones... and in posts to WELCOME someone... its taking it a bit too far... especially when it doesn't even look to be in jest anymore...
have fun, but don't overdo it... I know Doug does it because he always has done it to me, but I can tell when he's joking and when he's not...
But to do it when welcoming someone... not a good idea
That pace car is a beautiful thing... as are the other 82-84 Z28's I've posted about ...
Soon mine will look just as beautiful as those agian, even later on I may own a few of those low mile ones...

Okay, my .02...
Camaro tail lights do not look better, not even close when compared to TA/GTA ones... they are cool, but they don't look better. So, that offsets your opions and we agree they are different.
Firebird interiors are luxury compared to a Camaro. You will never find Camaro seats as comfortable as GTA seats. Camaro interiors have their plus, but after driving my Firebird and getting back into my Camaro I felt like I was going from a luxury car to some cheap *** car. I own the thing, no flames or nothing, its my car I am talking about.
I like Firebird over Camaros, so that nulls out that and so we agree again they are different... different strokes for differe folks, but all F-Body owners are alike, plain and simple. Its sick how close some of our lives are....
I would own another Camaro, maybe... I have yet to find one that I really want because 91/92s didn't come with 350s and verts or t-tops. If I where to buy a 91/92 I'd buy a Camaro.
Oh, and last, I like the late year Camaros and Firebird, can't stand the earlier year ones. So, the nullifies that and we agree they are different.

Ok, Ive kinda noticed this all over this entire board, and just kinda decided to ignore it. But, having owned both a Camaro, and a Firebird. I can give my own opinion of the 2. Once again, my opinion, I dont expect anyone to agree, or take it as what they should believe!
Camaro
Basically, I think the camaro is just more of an all out brute, perhaps even a bully. It looks like its ready to attack from any angle. The front end seems to be smirking, almost taunting you. The interior was designed fairly simply, no fancy un-needed gadgets here. Everything you need right there at hand. It might not be as comfortable on a long trip, but who cares, it turns heads, little kids point, and muffle their ears. Yeah, its a Camaro, thank you very much!
Firebird
The Firebird is the more subdued sibling of the Camaro. He is just a little nicer around the edges, and he knows when to play it cool, and just blend into the crowd. Sitting at a stoplight, it seems to be already doing well over the speed limit, and thats just standing still. The firebird doesnt have a smirk, he looks dead on at you, and hes not sure if he can trust you or not. The seats and interior are a little more luxurious, and everything is there, right where you want it, just like his brother. When you drive by, the same little kids notice you, just like they noticed the camaro, but, instead of muffling the sound of the engine, their mouths drop open, and they point.
Thats just what I get out of the whole thing. Basically, the 2 cars are brothers. The Pontiac has its strong points, as does the Chevy. But, all get together, and let brother stand together with brother. Like this!

Demon Z28,
I hope nothing I said made you upset. I was running with the thread and I assumed we were all talking in jest. I would never insult your ride.... we're all here to help and support each other, not knock each other down. Camaros are cool and they definetly have a tough look. My buddy had an '89 IROC and it was a sweet car. I spent many hours underneith it helping him bolt up mods and I'd do the same thing for you if you ever needed help. I'll cruise with ya any time!
Besides, I think we can all agree that the powerplant just has to be a CHEVY!!!! I've got CHEVROLET written all over my valve covers so people know when I pop the hood on my Pontiac that it's all Chevy under the skin

bah, you two just had to post didn't you...
Anyways... from that picture of Joe's... the Firebird just gives that weird look of "Hi, I'ma put on my best poker face and see what happens" where the Camaro is saying "I'm just gonna kick the **** outta you and laugh about it"
The reason I like the Tail Lights... they're simple... I'm not a fan of the firebird taillights no matter what style... but thats me...
I do like the aspects of the vents on the hoods though... thats something ONLY the CFI 82/83 Z28's had and that was more of a ram air anyways....
60 pound rubber spoilers I can do without, regardless of how nice they look and wrap around ... I like the simple camaro lip spoilers vs. those and the 2 inch tall 91/92 Z28 spoilers...
The birds had better wheels, I can give em that...
Interior... well... even if I do like Dougs new seats, I can do without them, mine are plenty comfy and when I get my new seats, it'll be even moreso... I don't need fancy doodads... keep it simple, less problems later...
I don't care about the luxuries of power windows, power seats, digital gauges, ****loads of doodads n whatnots... granted when I add my own doodads n whatnots thats different, but when I got the Camaro I was happy it had no power anything
I'm a fan of the 82-84 Camaro Z28's over all the thirdgens... compared to the rest of the Camaro's you have less to worry about with clearance for the nose... and they look a lot better in two tone paint than the rest, its not too big like the GTA's and IROCs... they look find in two tone as well but not as good as a solid color...
The headlights are a big deciding factor for me as well... they're not dim as hell for one... two, they don't hafta flip up (see now I love Dougs headlights, and I'd do a variation of that if I ever owned a bird)...
If I wanted the luxuries and comfort, I'd be driving something else entirely, not an F-Body or even anything remotely near a sports car ...
Now where I don't agree with joes sitting at a stoplight analogy... I will say that the firebirds do have a smirk ... from the angle of Joe's blue thingy (hehehehe) it looks more like a big wide dopey grin... Like this ~~~~>
hehehehe
I could go on... I love both cars, I just love the Camaro moreso because its simple, its got more an an attitude, and people fear them more often than not...
But even though I like one more than the other, I don't go around and tell people to go buy something else when the one they have is perfectly fine to begin with.
They're the same car with a few differences... let Camaro drivers keep their camaro's, don't go around with a big head telling them to go buy a firebird (especially a formula) ... and that whole gun law thing, to me, was just in bad taste...
See with the gun laws in washington... shyt like that would get ya shot

Anyway... If I had the chance to get a GTA for a low price, I might get it... its doubtful of course because I plan to have a plethora of 83 Z28's... so I'm not going to "trade up" as you guys would probably put it...
I'm happy with what I've got and thats what counts, as is the rest of the Cascade Crew for the most part, I don't know many if any at all in Cascade that is actually not happy with what they have...

Everyone of us has his/her own likes and dislikes. That doesn't make one opinion more valid than any other. I prefer the Camaro, but I would own a Firebird, particullarly a TTA, and it wouldn't be a damn museum piece, I would drive the **** out of it! I like the Firebird gauge layout and center console better than the Camaro, but I must disagree with Amorget on the issue of seats. The leather seats in my '91 RS are the most comfortable I've ever felt! Anyway, they both kick *** , so lets not argue this to death!

I've had the same Firebird for 9 years. I'm kind of biased any more
. No power anything and originally a V6. Anybody who will start a project on a car like that has got to be nuts!

,you just need to chill out.I got no beef with camaros, just like to raze the folks.I mean demon so i like to diss camaros who cares.I got respect for em.I like the 91 92 z28 i think they look sharp. But it has allways been an internal feud in GM between Firebird and Camaro. Now to address my comments, the queer mobile might have been a little much"hey i 've even seen queer GTA's".
Now the gun law thing that was sweet. Now if you look at the picture carefully ,the trans am has a dopey grim ,like he knows he's kick butt but he restrained a full grim. The camaro is show all his cards by saying im a kicking your *** tonight. Both have there poker faces and they pull it off nicely. Now that im so ****ing tired and this thread has bored me to death with such seriousnees im going to bed.Just remember to remove the stick when you go to bed.

The only reason I wouldnt own a third gen camaro is the instrument panel. Maybe Im spoiled, but I thing pontiac did a nicer job w/ their 4 pod looking panel.
Besides that nit, I think they both look great. Not to mention the extra 5 ~ 10 HP that camaros seem to have due to their nose.

RSFreak, I totally do not agree. I have sat in those Camaro seats before... have you ever sat in GTA seats? I have reference to both in my driveway and I could never go back to my Camaro seats after the GTA seats. Even some Camaro owners after driving my car through a Wendys drivethough where totally amazed with the GTA seats.

Alrighty then... To start I think all F-body's kick *** not matter the year or lineage (Chevy or Pontiac) my preference is with the Pontiacs and always will be, but there are plenty of Camaro's I wouldn't mind owning. I like what the Bird has to offer (like the interior/exterior better - even the pop ups!) And for a little comparison here, when looking for a car I test-drove the Chevy twin of the 89 Firebird I bought - 89 RS 2.8 red with t-tops, the only real differences were the Camaro had an automatic and a brand new engine. Comparing the two the Camaro just felt cheaper than the 'Bird it had more little creaks/rattles when I test-drove it ~2 years ago than my 89 does now @ 140,000+ miles on it. Was the Camaro nice? Yeah, but the Bird I bought was nicer IMO... As the looks go, I think the 3rd gen Camaro's have a no apologies time to kick some *** look to them (especially an 82/83ish Z28 with 3" Side pipes) while the birds have a more refined/sleek look but all the while have the same its time to kick some *** powerful look the Camaro's have. 4th gen's are another story but this is a 3rd gen board so I'll just skip that for now. Personally I'm sick of Camaro owners bashing on Firebird's and Firebird owners bashing on Camaro's. They are damn near the same car ESPECIALLY 3rd gen's and 4th gen's. 1st Gen's were similar looking but Pontiac's had their own drive trains. 2nd gen's the looks were a bit more differentiated and they didn't share drive trains. All our cars share the SAME drive train. Soooooo we should quit the pissing contest and leave the 'I like one over the other' in this thread and quit bringing it up in other threads... No **** you like one better than the other that’s why your driving it!

I second the comment about the Firebird's dash (analog). When I got my car in 1991, I had an opportunity to acquire a GN. I loved everything about the GN except it's dash.
I figure that I see the dash of my car more than anyother part, so I want the best looking dash out there and in 1991, it was the GTA's.
On the other comments, I have to agree that the Z28/IROC has a racier look. GTA looks like a combination of luxury and performance, similar to the differences between the Chevelle and GTOs in the 60s. This is why I was always partial to GTOs in the 60s than Chevelles, except I preferred Chevy motors. In Canada, we had a solution called the Beaumont. It had the GTO dash/interior, a little extra styling but appearance wise much like the Chevelle...but you got the Chevy motor.
I apologize to true Poncho owners (and I have owned a few in my day), but I always felt the Chevy was an easier and cheaper motor to build, and it didn't blow up (as quickly).

Man, what have I done? :P
I say "why so many birdie haters" in my first thread and now we get a big flame war. ;p
Dunno about you guys, but I love the parking lights (especially where the turn signals in the front are) on my GTA...specially when, during the evening (not at night, you know, it's dark, but it's not dark) little punks pass you on the freeway and think they're all that...you look unsuspecting and look like you're gonna back down...until you turn on the parking lights...time to go hunting.
I love it, it's cool as hell, kinda like in "Predator" when, even though you think it's safe to move around, out of nowhere, the 3 little dots the Predator has before he fires his shoulder cannon lights up out of nowhere and targets you.
Or am I just psycho? :P

DEMON sure said it best, they're the same family, one and all. Well, this topic sure has everyone speaking their peice. So heres mine. Yeah each car has their bonus and that probably why GM made the two cars. As it has been stated, we are all 3rdgen F-body owners=we all have great cars, who cares if yours is stamped chevy and mine is pontiac they all rock. As far as one person liking something more in a camaro over a firebird, maybe thats why they bought a camaro and not a bird. IMO I would take either, they both have they looks and got the basically the same performance. So lets learn from this post, everyone likes tastful jokes here and there and leave the bashing

Just my experiences...

RS, actually, I don't have leather, but the seats are the same padding/suppost wise so that doesn't affect a lot.
Cadillac seats are horrible, my lower back cramps up so fast in those things.
Everyone seems to hate F-Body seats but personally I like me, rather Camaro or Firebird, I just find Firebird seats more comfortable.
