APB. i need firebird nuts/bolts/nutplates....
hey all, i am putting the T/A back together, and i need help. I Have some bolts, and some nutplates...... but don't have all or the right ones................... and some are just plain are rusted out.
I know we have all been here before. Could someone please hit a wrecking yard and disassemble a firebirds front end. I would like to get the nutplates, and bolts together and sandwich bagged/labeled. I figure it will take about an hour to get it done. I WILL GLADLY PAY SHIPPING, AND COVER YOUR TIME INVESTED.
I would like the stuff for the headlights, including the down by where it bolts to the radiator support, the radiator plastic shroud thing bolts, and the metal "filler plate" bolts. This is where the camaro air duct goes. Pretty much all the hardware in front of the radiator.
I also need the "stock" front turn signal wires (194 bulb sockets) and 6-12" of wire. Here in Japan they use a Toyota turn signal. It is mounted outside the fender....... like the volkswagons. Looks awful.
I tried to do this back in august when i was there, but the firebirds in the yards were all gutted..... If anyone would help, I would greatly appreciate it. I can't stomp on Skylines if i can't get outta my driveway.

I'm looking for a good firebird to take small pieces off of also. But I'm not looking for the front end stuff, so I have no problem helpin' ya' out. The next time there's a good firebird at the yard, I'd love to spend some time takin' things apart.
I don't have the greatest memory though, so if you could post a couple of pics of the area(s) you're talkin' about, it'd help a lot.
Is there a difference between any particular models or years for what you need? I'm expecting everything to be the same for the pieces you've mentioned.

Curious, but which rims are you using? I was about to ask if you have a different pair per side, but both pics show the right.
Have you heard of a GTA 16x8 japanese repro wheel? Anthony's got a couple at his place... and I just think it's odd.

cool, you guys are willing to help. thanks
ALL GTA RIMS ARE JAPANESE MADE.
they are all "forged" in japan. I found my GTA rims here in a wrecking yard. I was looking for an replacement motor, for the original 305, when I saw 2 of the rims on a wore ore 79 corvette..... I asked how much and if the other 2 were around. He pointed me to a stack about 30X30 and 5ft tall of "SCRAP" aluminum rims.
I found the other 2 , and paid 86 bucks for them (10000 yen)
GREAT KILL if I may say so. I have to mail order tire though cuz the largest they have for 16" is 225's. Skyline rims are only 16X6.5 LOL!!!!!!
I can send pics... but anything from the radiator forward would be great. THE TRICK IS I NEED THEM LABELED. It is midnight your time now, and 6:30pm for me on monday..... so i will have to wait for daylight to snap pics.

We should do straight trades with aluminum wheels and wide tires. Hehe.
Also, I've got a pretty good labeling system, but it takes up a lot of space if it's only nuts and bolts. I use shipping bags (UPS, DHL, self-sealing type) for labeling and sealing. Actually, I've got some clear smaller ones too....

Hmmm. You need the hardware that holds the headlight assembly to the frame, right? (among other things) There is four bolts per assembly, and the bottom two are an absolute headache to get at, unless your significant other has small hands and can guide the bolts in. My wife proved invaluable to me in this regard. Getting them out is easy, though.

hey, gonna chime in before bed......... it's 2am here.
yes the bolts that hold the headlights together. Should be 2 for the bracket, 2 for mount to bracket, 4 for top "L" brackets (2 for assy, and 2 for mount to radiator frame) Total of 8 per headlight. i need the nutplates too. And also the nutplates and bolts to mount the fan shroud, and front filler plate in front of radiator.
I'll be online for a few more mins. thanks again

I'll take a look at the car when I get home...
looks like you need the foglights as well... or did someone glue amber lenses over the fogs?

Hey, Rob, if you need a hand, I can help you out maybe Thursday after work, if you like. Of course, I'd need to ask the wife if she would let me, maybe she can help even.

Indeed......... those are also toyota spec. They are hidious.
Apparently all fog lights, for japanese insp, need to have the goofy turnsignals, goofy amber foglights, and fold-in door mirrors. After the inspection, I have american style mirrors from the donor camaro. Thinkin' back it might have been quicker to say all the "10 mm bolts and nuplates." thanks again..... my internet was on the fritz, for 2 days

some GTA wheels are cast... some forged....
the 88 I owned long ago had the forged wheels, the ones off the one I'm parting are cast.... but they look the same AT FIRST glance... forged wheels have a thin lip, as the cast wheels have a thicker appearance...

Yeah, what gives? Looks like red/amber Firebird on the left, and monochrome Trans Am on the right. Or is the lighting playing trocks on our eyes?

YES the tailights are different for now..... Again I leaning towards a (AMERICAN) TRANS AM. The japanese "export" versions all come stock with the firebird lights. They must have amber turn signal, out-set fender lights(must be visible from a 45* angle not flush), and amber fog lights. It is getting a corrected look, one piece at a time. I have decided to make all of it functional then deal with rust or vanity stuff. I will be trying to register it in FEB. so I need to get a move on.

I was supposed to have monday and tuesday off... but I need to go to class even LONGER to make up some work.
From wednesday on, I'm free weekday mornings and throughout the weekend. I can chip in a couple of hours as long as someone can give me good directions.

OK.. looks like a good overcast day... once I get the tank back in the RS... after I get the parts off, I'll shoot a pic so you can tell me what else you need...
When I ship the parts, will I need to declare a value?

Will I be shipping to APO?
I got rained out before I got to start on the bird... do you want the fog lights and the taillights as well?
I did get the RS running though... now to part it out...
BTW, how close are you to the nearest Harley dealer?... (hint)

Shawn,
What else do you want/need?
the top radiator cover I recall you asking for.. but I plan on using OE electric fans in my SS when I do the TPI swap... so I need that for my selfish self... LOL...
I dont think you need the headlight surrounds.... but since I had to take them off...
all the bolts are attatched with the nutplates in the correct location...
The center piece for the tailights was cracked, but I think it can be glued back... see pic and let me know..

robert, that looks great. I will not be needing the headlight bezels(plastics). I also don't need the radiator support plastic(for fans), I just need the TOP bolts and nutplates that bolt the plastic to the radiator frame. I would like the wire harness for the tail lights, maybe 6 inches forward from the spot where it goes throught the rear metal (trunk). Also a couple of inches of the foglight harness would be great, as the connector was swapped by the Japanese dealership. The bolts and nutplates are labeled though right?

I have looked into the memorablilia you wanted. Looks no problem. I will also need an address. I will keep you posted, and let you know when the box goes out.

I will try to get the harness off tomorrow and then I need to look for a box big enough to carry it all (or several boxes of different sizes/shapes for the different items)... hopefully, I'll be able to get the stuff boxed and out by Weds... unless work gets crazy again... I will post the day the box(es) go out.
all the bolts are through the holes on each component... left and right seem to be the same... though there are 4 "L" brackets... 2 with tabs that face the headlight assys to the center of the car, and 2 without tabs that locate the outboard portion of the headlight assy.... I'll see if I have some more nuplates/bolts in a drawer here and toss them all in a small box..
Thanks for your patience... I know I'm a tad slow with stuff like this...

I actually had a box the right size... now to pack all the goodies in it safely... It's still raining here, so I have not yet taken the foglight and tail-light harness sections off the car...
(I dont want to stand in the rain, since sugar melts and poop dissolves... take that how you want...LOL)
Shawn, if all goes well, the box will go out Weds... since I think the PO is closed tomorrow...

Wow a 3rd gen in Okinawa! Thats pretty sweet! We were stationed in Okinawa for 3 years from 99-02. I only saw 1 3rd gen while I was there and it was a blue Camaro. Gotta represent American Muscle

TRYING..... I do get some props from my co-workers, but most are dazzled by the skylines and rotary cars. My japanese friends do have the attitude i would expect though. They are in awe, kinda like we americans walking around in Italy and seeing Ferraris, in awe, when they are common-place there.
