Another Cup Holder Option

After reading a lot about installing cup holders in this forum, I thought it was time for me to do this myself. I wasn't thrilled with a plastic cup holder, so I searched for an alternative and came across a spun aluminum cup used in marine applications. I thought that this would match my gage bezels and look nicer than a plastic one.

I bought the black model GH40AL-B made by Beckson Marine; they also come in various other anodized colors. You can find them at this link: http://www.beckson.com/ghal.html. Needless to say, I am very happy with the results.

The install required a 3-5/8" diameter hole saw. Before cutting the hole, I relocated my hatch switch forward, next to the 5-speed shift diagram. This cup has a rather large lip diameter, I'm not sure you could mount it without relocating the switch. If anyone wants me to measure this out, let me know.

Looks good.

You could "Pimp it up a notch" (LOL) and do a cup holder w/ LED lights in it, they have wired and battery operated ones.

Google LED cup holders, kinda tunerish, but cool.

Re: Another Cup Holder Option

Yea, I'm not the "pimp-it-up" kind of guy, I like things plain and simple. Notice my black gage bezels, I like the subtleness of blending in with the dash.

Although my 2011 Durango does have a light band around its 2 cup holders and that looks pretty cool as well as being functional at night.

I may have to do some research as you suggest . . .

FYI - if you can't tell from my picture, the black anodize is a satin type of finish, not shiny. It goes really well with the textured finish of our dash and console surfaces. I think that's why I didn't want a plastic cup, afraid it would be shiny black.

Re: Another Cup Holder Option

Luckily, you have crank windows.

Is it like the one on my 4th gen?, does the cup get in the way while shifting?

If you had a hatch release button, where did you put it?

I suppose if your drink was really tall, you might bump it. I don't notice it to be a problem. When I don't have a drink, it's a great place to put my phone. I relocated the hatch switch next to the 5-speed shift emblem, you can see that in my photo.

Re: Another Cup Holder Option

I bought this one at Pep boys for 5 bucks. Cut the top off so it was flat and tucked neatly under the center console lip. I also used sticky velcro tape on the back so it would hold itself in place.

I kinda dig it cause I can remove it whenever I want.

Thanks man. I don't do anything to my cars that I can't change back later. Most of the mods I made in my last Corvette while I was in my twenties, I hated when I got into my thirties...

Thanks Stone, I really like it too. With the horizontal spokes curved downward, I see most of my gage faces without looking around the wheel. It’s a Grant GT Rally. I purchased it along with the installation kit & billet horn button from Summit.
