What head gasket should I use with nitrous?
I am installing a ZZ4 partial engine block with flat top aluminum pistons and AFR 190 cc aluminum heads with 58 cc combustion chambers. I am also going to use a 150 shot of nitrous oxide. What head gasket should I use for this combination? Thanks for your help.

Does anyone want to answer this? Has anyone ever heard of the Silicor gaskets my Mr. Gasket (Victor Reinz)?
Here's the link http://www.mrgasket.com/maincat.html
Click on the Mr. Gasket catalog, then on Gaskets, then scroll to page number 3.

Just out of personal experience, I've had a friend of mine use the Fel-Pro gasket #1010 on his aluminum headed 350 ci. with nitrous. It began to leak after a couple of passes with the N2O. The Loc Wire head gaskets from Felpro (#1045) are great but require head machining to accept the oversized wire ring on the gasket.(which I'd rather not do) Do the Silicors have similar sealing abilities and strength?

I have the Fel Pro 1010's on my motor right now and have went through about 15 bottles of N20 with no problems. I have used these gaskets on a few other engines with aluminum heads and N20 and never had a faliure. Did your buddy tourqe the heads after running the engine through a heat cycle?

As far as I know he did go through tourqing the bolts after the heat cycle. It started leaking coolant externally from the head gasket (coolant dripped outside along the block).

I have heard about problems with the #1010. If you look on AFR's website, they used to recommend that gasket on their heads, but now they say to use the 1003. There were some guys on the corvetteforum that had problems with the 1010 and the ring around the cylinder blowing apart. Not sure though.
I use the victor reinz #5746 .026 compressed thickness.

I like the 1003 as a regular type gasket because it uses a preflattened stainless steel wire as apposed to the 1010's weaker preflattened copper wire. in the cylinder head applications column the 1003 lists "for cast iron or aluminum heads" and in the aluminum head brinneling column it lists "minimal"
I had problems with the 1010. I now stay away from it. Im running the 1014 on my boat with afr's due to the fact it sees no coolant and gasket material deteriorates. I use the 1003 on my car as per afr's recomendation.
