adding a blower to a ZZ4 ?
adding a blower to a ZZ4 ?
any and all help is super welcome guys
k, well, this is where i'm at right now
next summer my car gets a new everything, frame up. can't wait. *sigh*
anyway i think i want to run a crate motor, like the ZZ4, then slap a blower like paxton or procharger on it. i know the ZZ4 comes in carb'd form, which sux, but i like it bc it's supposed to be easy to hook up : just add the gas, ground, 12V, and throttle cable. that setup is a lot easier than all this tpi and sensor crap. plus, i'm going to want to add a blower so wouldn't i be better off not spending money on a tpi system i'm going to pull off anyway ?
that said, how feasible would it be to swap out my L98 for a ZZ4 and then bolt a paxton onto it?
if i did that would i need a mini-ram to put on top ?

The CR is the hardest thing to get around. You won't be able run a hole lot of boost even when its intercooled, like an ATI. If you know your stuff, I'd recommend building your own bottom end. The pistons on the ZZ4 aren't that great.

other than the fact that it doesnt have forged pistons the L31 shortblock http://www.sdpc2000.com/cart.asp?act...id=514&pid=621 is a nice starting platform. A guy should be able to rebuild a similar shortblock w/forged TRW's for a little more cash (about $2000 total) if he shopped hard enough. meaning stock crank, late 4 bolt or 2 bolt block, stock rods (whatever you have) rebuilt with ARP's on the rods and TRW's for pistons. a motor built like this can take some serious abuse below 7000 rpm (keeping redline closer to 6000 rpm).
well right now i have an L98 from 1989, but it was rebuilt just before i bought it. the P.O. said the bottom end is bulletproof but i'd rather spend the money and know for myself. before it spun out it was running a 10.5:1 CR and i had it tuned up ... it was great =D
how low could i take the CR on the L98 so that i'm not getting 3mpg when i start running boost ?
also, i know for a fact that the block has never cracked and that it isn't cracked now, but would it be better just to get a new block, like that L31, so that i don't have to worry about it cracking on me from the extra heat ?

as far as i know after a visual inspection there is 0 damage to the engine. the oil pan was a deep moroso one, so as u can imagine it's a little scratched and dented but it'll be replaced anyway. if i can use the current block as a base that's even better, bc it'll bolt right up to a 93-97 T56 =)

because of the flywheels offered by fidanza and centerforce any chevy pattern block can be used with a 93-97 T56 (avoid the weaker 93 though if possible)

I bought a super ram upper and an edelbrock lower, but I have two cars I am putting that on one and for the blower car I am getting the new stealth ram intake. it is cheaper, pretty nice, and has NO emmision provision though. see here more info https://www.thirdgen.org/techbb2/sho...hreadid=114308
omg guess what? now i'm going to HAVE to buy one =D
my tires (what's left of them) and i can definitely handle my car losing some low-end power and gaing lots of horsies up high.
i'm left wondering though - the stealthram likes cams with LOTS of lift, and right now i have crane 1.6 rollers in there. and i love them. but wouldn't a supercharger like a cam with more moderate lift and would this aggravate the stealthram ? i'll def be putting on at least a 58mm TB.

just my .02
i personally see no need to upgrade the intake if your going to run a supercharger,if you are on a tight buget.obviously it cant hurt but your money is better spent on good heads and free flowing exaust.and before you flame me with the fact that i'v ipgraded my intake the intake mods were before the sc and i'd bet that with the sc they wouldent be cost effictive.
