Help me identify this turbo motor

I went to look at a 78 Z28 today. I popped the hood and what do I see, a 4 bolt main 350 with a turbo charger!!! So what is it. It is a regular 350, the driver side manifold runs under the motor into the passenger side manifold, then the turbo bolts to the passenger side manifold. The turbo takes air from under the carb (which sits where it would on an NA motor) and then pushes the compressed air into the manifold again. The turbo makes NO boost until you stomp it. Then the boost guage hops up to about 9 PSI and you have to hold on!!!. Does anyone know what this motor is or if I should buy it???????

Please help!!!!!

My guess is that it has a Turbo TA motor in it. I dont think that GM put those motors into Camaro's. if in fact that is the case then you have a poncho 350, I dont think that stuff will fit a Chevy motor, because of bolt paterns.

It's not stock. No it is not a turbo 301 setup. The turbo does not sit on top of the intake like the 301. It sits right on the pass. side exhaust manifold. It is some type of vette setup.

Its probably one of those aftermarket rajay kits you find on ebay now and then.

Ive seen them make decent power, if the turbo or the motor is shot, or has one foot in the grave with the other kicking dirt, then you may be buying a headache. from your description it sounds healthy, if its not too expensive then it may be worth it.

Here is a picture of the Martin/rajay kit on my 77 vette

https://www.thirdgen.org/techbb2/sho...threadid=36550

The car drives ok, but I have no track times to tell you. The throttle response is a little slow, and it is in need of a good tuneup. It was put on a stock 180hp L48 engine with 882 heads, and the kit definitely gives the car a little more on the top end. I have some plans to change/port the heads, cam it, and rebuild/get a new turbo. Ask for service records so you can find out if the turbo has been rebuilt recently. Later, and good luck

Yeah that is exatcly what it is, but yours is cleaner . So this would probably be a bad choice for a driver (I'm only 17, can barely afford the insurance on one car let alone two). I'm not against working on it, but it looks a little troublesome. This one has the valves to bypass the turbo as well.

$3500 is the asking price. It is probably worth $2500. It has those gay Hurst T tops . And there is some rust, oil leaks and it need a water pump/exhaust.
