Intercooler idea

Hi..I was reading some of the threads with intercooler ideas..and it got me thinking..

Back in school i remember experments with cooling objekts by spraying them with a fine mist of water while a strong airflow was directed at it. The acceleated air made the water evaporate fast thus drawing heat out of the objekt in the process. The basics of the Windchill effekt.

So my idea was to place some fine spraying nozzles infront of the intercooler assisted by a pair of high power fans. the system would be easy to construkt and cheap to refill

Would this have any real world effect?

It seems a littel to simple to work...

It might help, but if your going to do that you might as well do water injection. Also nitrous express has a kit that sprays cold gas over the intercooler, you could check that out at their web site.

As I understand..water injection is not that simple it affects calibration plus it dosent work well with the tpi design wich i figure most people with supercharging dreams are using.

This idea.."evaporative asisted intercooling" would be simple cheap and wouldent affect calibration...that is if it works

I picked up a fogger n20 setup. 50shot. May/may not work. I'll report back when I get some track time.

i remember reading an artical about the new Fast and Furious movie (let me explain why first) the new Super car in that movie is a Nissan Skyline R-34 GT-R (remember the supra, well this is going to replace that in the new movie) and since that's my dream car i wanted to see what they did to it. The guy who is the owner of the Supra and now this Skyline is also the producer of the movie. Any ways, He has a Nitrous System set up in the car, but instead of using it to blow apart the engine he has it set up to Freeze the Intercooler. If you look at the picture on the cover you can see a "NoS" nozzle infront of the intercooler. The same principle applies, you hit the switch and the system sends Nitrous Oxide onto the intercooler, thus giving it a much cooler inlet temp. But it would be VERY VERY expensive after a while, meaning you would only use it during racing or if you wanted to fine tune the system.

I think you would be better off using CO2 on the intercooler instead of N2O, cost wise CO2 is cheaper to refill. I think Co2 comes out 20 degrees warmer then N2O.

If I were going to use N2O, I would put it in the engine. even if it was a 25 shot. this gives the N2O a direct contact to the inlet temps.

A kid here in town made a mister system similar to that for his intercooler and supposedly it works great. It was for an eclipse though.

The gain from spraying NO2 on the intercooler is far less than injecting it into the engine. If I were to have an intercooler sprayer, it would be water. A fine mist over would be sufficent.

Here is a pic of the NX kit on a WRX. FYI, it gained him 20HP

And none of that 20 was from any of the excess Nitrous getting into the engine <g>

All the engine **needs** to see is a few fumes, to pick up a few HP.

There are kits out now that do that intentionally with CO2. They have an inline fuel cooler, this MAF look'n thing that is basically a seperate small co2 to air intercoler, and brackets that go around the front of the intercooler. They're geared toward ricers...but that seems like it might be a pretty good concept. If you hook up all 3 deals inline with one CO2 feed I wonder if you could get a fair bit of power gain from one shot of co2.....rather than just wasting nitrous by dumping it on.
