I didnt spend much time on the computer this weekend. LOL

Yes I went racing on Saturday. I got to the line and did a pretty mdiocre burnout. At least I know the line lock works good now. It didnt last year. Got to the line and put the transbrake on. Two step was only set to 3200 rpms so it didnt build much (any?? I didnt check the gauge) boost. I let off and it spun to a 1.79 60' and then hooked and booked! It was pulling HARD AS HELL till about the 300' mark. Or perhaps it was even before that. All I know is that by then the run was over for me because the discharge tubing popped off that goes from the turbo to the intercooler. We lost the clamp that holds it to the turbo and the pipe rubbed the ground all the way down the track and all the way up the return. It was quite loud. LOL
I ran an amazing 13.75 @ 75mph. LOL

First and only run. So I ordered more tubing yesterday and I will be building a new tube this week. i am going to use some braces between each tubing connection to insure that the same problem I had this weekend, doesnt happen again. Im also debating on installing the 28 x 10.5 slilcks I have even though I ahvent bought the new rims to 'narrow' the rear like I wanted. I only have 4 weeks to get this thing in tip top shape for the race in Bowling Green. I can get the thing to hook wiht the rims how they look now. It might not look as good as I want it too but at least I will be able to get it off the line. LOL

So thats what the weekend report is. I *hope* that I can get the car ready to go by Thursday as I could possibly run to dayton and race over there Thursday evening. I dont know if I will be able to get a new tube built the way that I want before then though. Just have to see.

Test One results: 13.75 @ 75mph 1.79 60'
better luck next time.

Well Guido... Better luck next time!
That's why they call them "Shakedown Runs" LOL.
I know that your car is going to run it's a$$ off once you get all the bugs worked out, and it is only a matter of time .
It's crazy how much the bar has been raised the last few years, most people on this board would be tickled to death with a 13.75 pass .
Again, keep at it, it's only a matter of time before you start putting up those single didget numbers!

I know it isnt long. I found out this morning that the guy who welded my roll cage in, who works with me, has a bead roller. When i get my new tube welded up, Im going to take it all out to his place and roll beads on the ends of each tube. I have them flared right now by hand but its really tough to get the tubes over the flares. Im going to weld tabs on each conection too so that I can bridge each connection with a solid piece of flat steel. It wont fly apart after that and then it will be up to the tube clamps and silicone connectors to stay sealed. Im also going to use dishsoap on each connection. A tip lent to me this wekened. it makes the tubes easy to assemble and when it dries, acts almost like a glue.

Cant hurt.

EDIT: We got some video of it but it isnt anything special. It shows me smokin the tires off the line and then the front end at about full extension. The turbo screams and the car looked like it was moving fast (it sure the hell felt strong) and then it just drops the nose and I half throttled it the rest of the way.

you should look into the t-bolt clamps for your ic connections, they are a lot better than standard hose clamps. You can get them from NAPA for around $2-$3 each. Hairspray is another good assembly lube that drys to a tacky finish.

I heard that one too Jeff.

Ive got t-bolts t the throttle body. The tubing I used on some of the other connections was thick and it was too big for the t-bolts I bought. *shrug* Ordering some new tubing too.

just gotta be patient guido , your time will come.

my advice:

-bead roll your current tubing
-use hair spray instead of dish soap, not as messy
-use the same clamps you have now but run each one in the opposite direction

Thats what we did on a 30psi setup on a 4 banger and it never let go

I ran them opposite from each other. It slid off the only place that I couldnt put a bead on.

The turbo itself.

We have an idea for that connection without actually welding something to the turbo.

Im going to invest in t-bolt clamps everywhere just because I know they work well. Its funny, I didnt have problems last season with them blowing off when I went to the track. This season was wholely different. LOL I hope to get this new piece built and *maybe* I can make it back to the track Thursday. If not then it will likely be next week. MAYBE Saturday but Ill likely have to work again. We'll see.

sound like you had alittle fun Guido,

I like to use Murphy's oil soap (in gel form), it's very slippery and also when it dries it can help seal, we use this on all the air-to air piping on the big trucks pushing about 30 psig. also this stuff will not attack rubber or silicone like oil based lubes...

If you can't find the murphy's, shoot me a e-mail with your address, and i'll send you a tub...Free!!!

later

I raced at Muncie last weekend. Ive never raced in Dayton but its another option Ive looked at. Not going to make it this week. I think next Wednesday at Muncie I will have it out.

I am really good friends with a guy who used to live in Sulpher Springs. Do you know the Walker's??

Which Walker's? There are a couple that I know. I am actually neighbor's of Billy and Janice Walker. That would be pretty strange if they are the ones you know. I hope to have my car up to Muncie soon. I will have it running soon, but won't have the nitrous wired yet. I put a direct port NX kit on it this winter.

It is a small world. I think Jim is Billy's older brother, but could be wrong. I live basically next door to them. They probably complain about the car parts, and the noise in the garage, but I think my garage is far enough away that they don't notice. I'd like to see your car at Muncie sometime. Hopefully we'll go on the same night. I'm going to try to get up there a little more than I did last year.

I think I read your last post wrong, Jim is Billy's cousin, and is your friend. Sorry, I get confused easily.

lol I tell you man, swamp racing is looking mighty appealing!

I almost went to Kilkare last night but there was a small blurb on the radar that just happened to blast the track. Imagine that??

Hrm.. it hasn't rained here in... 3 months. Maybe you should move down here, Tucson has one of the best tracks on this side of the country! (For drivers, it really sucks being a spectator there.)

Were you at Muncie? I looked for you, but didn't see you. We left about 8:30 or so. I didn't have my car there, or I would have stayed longer.
