New heads

I picked up some 882s, they are pretty built, just wonderin if it was a good investment or not.

882 cast
ported to fit 2.02/1.6 w/ Swirl-Polished Steel Valves
z28 springs
keepers
hardened exhaust seats
positive valves seals
valve guides/keepers
polish work

any other info?

Thanks,
-Curt

Depends on how much you spent on them. The most impressive factory casting heads to me are still vortec heads. Small valves, small intake runners and they still flow as well as many larger aftermarket heads.

I have heard nothing good about 882s - except that they are cheap.

Pretend your Martha Stewart(or someone at ENRON) and do what they did when they knew before anyone else did that the investments they had were going to be worthless....

SELL SELL SELL..... A wise man said this is another post where someone was trying to make 400hp with #882 heads(see below)

I hate to burst your bubble but #882 heads are about the worst possible heads for any performance build up. They are very light castings prone to cracking. Adding 2.02 valves wont help that much since they flow very little to begin with. 400hp will be hard to come by with #882's. If you do reach 400hp with #882s Great!!! Then swap the #882s for a good set of heads and youll have 475hp!!

If you want power, spend as much as you can on heads!!!

They can be made to flow OK, but they are very prone to cracking in performance applications. I don’t think that they’re really worth much more then whatever the parts used in them are, I wouldn’t pay $400 for them at all.

OTOH, assuming that they're a fresh (and correctly done) rebuild I would probably buy them from you if you if you were willing to sell them for under $200...

If its all you have they will definatly work. My comment was towards using them as a "high performance" application where these would be your final heads. If they are all you have drive them to to death till you can afford some better ones.

Heads are the part you want to spend the most money on...
