useing nitrous??

hey guys i dont no anything about nitrous so i got some questions. first when racing and u wanna hit the nitrous button it there a speed u should be at before u hit it, also does it matter what gear u r in?

Is there a way to make it safe on the engine when useing it?
and if u wanna go real easy on your engine how big a shot should u use?

i wanna get it just for the track and for just incase he faster races lol>>> but i dont want it in anyway to damage my engine or take away its life, is this possibe????

There is no specific "speed" that you have to be at, it is more engine RPM that matters. As far as when you should hit it, I would reccomend waiting until it is at or above 3500 RPM. You don't really have to be in a specific gear (although a forward gear would be a good start ) , you just want to make sure that you aren't going to lose traction when you do hit the button. Obviously, then higher the gear (meaning 2nd instead of 1st) the less likely the chance of losing traction. You just have to find out by trial and error.
Nitrous will not hurt your engine as long as you have it built right. If you just go throwing more than the engine can handle at it, then it will get hurt. I don't know any of your engine specs, so I can't really reccomend a kit for you. Post some stats of your setup and we'll go from there.

what about nitrous in a t-5 car? and the L69 motor with a completly stock 305?...what could i run on that?

Well on any completely stock motor, I wouldn't reccomend any more than a 125 horse kit. The stock internals just aren't built to handle it. If you are running T-5, I would also suggest you use a throttle switch instead of a finger activated button.

my min requirements for me to run nitrous on my car:

Window switch. - makes the nitrous cut on at a safe RPM, and off just before redline/shift.

WOT switch - you have to be at WOT for the system to work

Clutch switch - if you push the clutch in, it shuts it off.

fuel pressure switch. - if the fuel pressure drops, then it cuts it off


and of course, the master on/off switch, to arm and disarm the system.

How would i run a wet system with a mechanical fuel pump aside from making the car run rich?

personally, id find that too chancy for my taste... the pump "pumps" in squirts, not a smooth flow like most electric pumps...


but you wire the fuel pressure switch just the same, and have it shut off the N2O if it drops too low.



unless you're asking me how to plumb the actual fuel lines.....



personally, id convert to a electric fuel pump before i put any nitrous on the motor.... if its a smallish shot, id just T off of the "to carb " fuel line... if it was anything big, or you might go big later, id run its own line....... it may be easier to jsut run its own fuel system... a small fuel cell, pump and lines.

think a 1 quart fuel cell would be enough to get me through the gears?

o_O ive never seen a 1 quart fuel cell.


id probly look around the 1 gallon size... you want there to be extra fuel and room for error.

k i got a mechanical fuel pump also but am really considering nitrous but i dont want nothing big, how much u suggest so it would be considered safe and worry free. my engine is not stock but i dont wanna damage my engine of lessen its life. how big a shot should i go with? oh i have a holley 750 VS carb if that makes a diffrence.
