Turbo Headers

OK i have a question for all you guys. I doubt that it will get many results but... I have done much searching on the whole turbo manifold and turbo header subject. I have found many many pictures and a lot fo good resources but as of yet i have no schematics. I have an 89 Trans Am 350 TPI with a 5 speed. I currently have a serpentine system, but i can convert to any belt system nessecary. As for my setup i have 2 T-3 turbos. They have 57 trim wheels .63 Ar on the turbine side and one size larger on the compressor .72 i believe ceramic coated as well as the down pipes I am using dual 2.3 SVO intercoolers and dual blow off valves i will be utilizing about 10 lbs of boost. For fuel management i will be using the sy/ty system Hopefully i will use a water injection system but thats not for sure for now.... the engine is a L98 from a 91 Z28 aluminum corvette heads 8.3:1 compression ported TPI ported throttle body ported stock lower intake but again this post is actually looking for a twin turbo header layout i have access to mig tig smaw heliarc heli oxygen and oxygen acetaline welders an thinking of using stainless t304 or 316 mabey better as money permits. thanks for any and all help you guys can offer thanks in advance matt manglos

Nobody is really gona beable to give you measuerments. Your best bet is to buy the materials and goto town.

304ss is nice but if its outa your budget mild steel will be fine.

Your headed in the right direction. just need to look at a ton of pic's and deside what way you want to go.

here surf through the collection of pic's Ive accumulated when I was gona do Twins. but Ive since sold my two 60/63 T3's and went with one Large Single

Hope this helps ya some.

well thank you chris, i have looked at your collection extensively... i like the truck... diesel dragster lol thats cool out of curiosity do you know who made the log style manifold on you sight... one unfinished one finished with the turbo mounted and if i do use mild steel what wall thickness is acceptable... i think ican go for the stainless my car has been down a year while i got what i do have t-3's .63 ar turbine .72 compressor 57 trim wheel svo intercoolers... blah blah blah all just a bunch of talk till i make it come together i know... one could hope for measurements... not incredibly likely but it was worth a shot... again thanks for the reply

those would be the ones, I am looking into the all out seperate runner header option but im not sure i want to take all the time and effort for the additional pain in the @$$ of routing it (it does take up a lot more room) and if i am working in stainless a lot more price, i am very experienced at all aspects of welding so no probs there cast is fun... and i considered going the way of a few others on this board but i just cant bring myself to doing that i mean no insult intended to those who have done it i am quite impressed with the result and its very ingenious but i like the more profesional look of the log style manifold done properly i considered ordering manifolds from banks but at over 700 a pair thats a lot of money.... i guess i jsut have to take mesurements and start up my own set only i will document steps and measurements so i can reproduce them did you ever tell me a good sidewall thickness for ss or mild? i considered an inconel alloy untill i saw what raw materials run OMG... anyways i ahve about everyhitng i need other than the manifolds and the fuel management i think i will run the sy/ty ecm and do some serious learning on the programming, mabey someone will be able to give me a good starter bin... i htink i may have one already if i can find it its a supercharge 12 psi bin that has been tuned.. might work as a starting point for me. DAN W i will see what i can find out... mabey there is hope yet.... Btw ceramicoating is totally worth it what is a rough cost to have turbo's headers and down pipes coated ? not looking for a real specific answer jsut a ball park. thanks matt

700 per set is not bad. If you are looking into fabricating your own tubular headers, its going to get you close to that figure unless you have sources to cheaper materials such as flanges.

Good luck!

i do have sources for cheap SS but 700 for a set of cast iron manifolds.... i could buy some really nice premade headers for around that price, not complaining just measuring up all my options b4 i spend anymore money

Is that L98 rebuilt? I'm just curious because i noticed you said that you put a set of aluminum vette heads on it and without a rebuild that would bump up your compression quite a bit rather than lowering it.

L98 aluminum heads have 58cc chambers while the irons have 64cc i believe.

Just trying to catch something you may have missed and even clear it up for me too
