I used search but I am about to undergo Twin Turbos on budget
I used search but I am about to undergo Twin Turbos on budget
Well, I got a tranny good to 800hp, a stock rear end (i'll replace it when I throw it) but I have done about 15 hours of research and I plan on ordering as many books as I can on twin turbo set ups. I have read 2 articles in old car craft but they didn't already confirm anything I needed to know.
I have found the following items at a swap meet:
'71 350 4 bolt used (I could still see factory hone marks on cylinder walls)
2.02/1.60 alum heads used but ing ood shape (I plan port polish)
9:1 Forged Pistons not sure no brand but new
Steel Crank- Used but in perfect shape
I have a buddy that has the best TPI intake Stealth Superram? Used but he only wants $1k
I got some sick 4 inch exhaust from the headers back just so I dont' have to mess with this once I get the engine in. (wayy too loud the neighbors give me looks
)
I am not on a "tight" budget but I would like to make it as tight as I can and not sacrifice any power...
Here are my goals:
Street Car no more than 10k a year on motor
Want to be able to adjust boost quickly for drag strip
Want to keep decent fuel mileage
Want it to run at least an 11sec 1/4 with alky or NX
Trying to keep the car a sleeper, probably going to get it repainted stock and hide gauges in air conditioner vents that remove on demand or on a tray that slides out.
BBS a reputable company? I am liking there setup but haven't read much feedback from users or seen dyno on it.
What junkyard turbos could be used and be QUALITY?
I will think of more later, I have been reading on turbos for hours now and my mind is racing with blow dryers.

use 2 garrett ?t28? of a 86 thunderbird turbo coupe, they have water cooled bearing houseings. i know of a guy who used them on a stock ho 5.0 l ford with gt40 heads a e303 cam and a 650dp holley. it eventually ran 9.98 1/4 mile it is now a single turbo. he is a local guy ive seen around for years. he is a friend of a freind.

Definitely look in your local junkyards but don't rule out the possibility of new. I first looked into the JY route but after pricing them up around here we only spent a couple hundred bucks more for brand new with compressor and turbine wheels matched to our combo. Food for thought, junkyard isn't always the most cost effective, unless of course you know someone, and get lucky...

Be careful if you buy new turbo's off eBay. I found out the hard way there is some forign imports doing a very sloppy job reproducing T3/T4s. I lost a lot of money and time, but its all good now thanks to an excellent local turbo shop.

chicken, I didn't know you were over on this board! this is Jeremy, Jim's cousin. I was really impressed by the looks of the twin turbo setup the last time i was up there. Unforunately, I didn't get to see it in action. I'll hopefully be driving my 84 T/A up there next summer... just gotta finish putting it together

If you make you're way back up here you'll most definitely get to see it in action next year. We're starting on it early this time. Interior's already gutted (once again
) and we'll be putting the cage in soon. Next summer the car should be seeing some serious track time. And hopefully a real bottom end so we can run more than 8 psi of boost
Good luck with yours Thread
