383 Vortech/ Cam Q's??
I've been reading a few posts on cams etc for blower apps. I'm in the process of rebuilding my 383 and looking for a new cam. Here's the specs on the car:
383, TFS heads (ported approx 270 @ 0.500), TPIS Mini Ram, 58mm TB, 1-3/4 SPL headers, 3.73, 6-speed, SQ-8-10lbs
I called Crane & Comp and here are the 2 cams they recommended
Crane-113822
Dur: 226/234
Lift: .458/.473
LSA: 114
Comp-12-244-4
Dur: 234/244
Lift: .498/.500
LSA: 112
The questions I have are 112 or 114?
Also I have 1.6 rollers which will change the #'s a little bit.
Any suggestions, experiences with these cams would be greatly appriciated. Thanks guys.

Of those 2 cams- I like the comp because of lift/dur #'s. Wish it had more lift and maybe an extra degree or 2 on the lsa (1.6's will help that). In my opinion; your extra cubes, miniram, and gears will like the extra airflow and rpm range of the comp cam.
That cam is similar to my first cam, and I was happy with it. New cam is 236/248 .550lift 113lsa

Thanks. I was also thinking a little more lift, but I have to check the valve clearance to make sure I can do it. How did your car idle with the cam?

Thanks. Interesting reading, looks like they ran a cam with a little less duration. Nice numbers! Thanks for the info, I saved the article for future.

What generation of TFS heads are you running? I have Gen 1 and having a hard time finding dished pistons for the correct compression. On the phone with TFS & Probe right now.

Remember, Intake manifold type, high flow TPI, SuperRam, Stealth Ram and MiniRam, all offer different power ranges. A High flow TPI or SuperRam and even Stealth Ram like split pattern durations the best. With their long runners and large plenums they offer the most torque. Then of course, this being a supercharged motor that is not as important.
A 112 lobe seperation is fine, but that should be the lowest you go. Any lower than that and you will be loosing some of your boost out the exhaust.
I would go with this one. Crane-113822
Dur: 226/234
Lift: .458/.473 With the 1.6:1 rockers .489/.505
LSA: 114
It will also give you a nice idle with high vaccum, Which is especially important if you are runninng a stock speed density ECM. (You didn't mention which one you have.)

Thanks. I'm running MAP (749 Syclone ECM). I see you suggest a 114 LSA. Is this good for the street? I've read you can lose some mid range with that separation.
