How much does it really help to grind fins in MAF

You know, those little cooling fins in the MAF thing. Mine is gutted, but those fins are still in there. How much does it really help to grind those down? 1 maybe 2 HP gain, or none at all?

Thanks,

Jason

I think that removing the fins, causes the maf to underreport the airflow due to more air flowing around the wires, which runs the engine leaner, but since the ecm is set up stock to run rich this helps get the AF ratio closer to optimum therefore the engine runs better.
Now considering that this is on the power adder board you probably are supercharged or something and you need that extra CFM to feed your engine.
In either case I think it can only help, and it's free so go for it.

Dear Bastard

Just be really careful when removing those fins. I've heard many a horror story about people screwing the whole maf while doing that.

Good luck with it though

I was trying to remove the fins off of mine and if you look at the outside there are 4-5 screws, if you take them out you can pull the guts of the MAF out a little, is there something else that is holding this in place? it seems a lot easier and safer if you can pull the center out (which is how they reman these Im sure) and then cut the fins off, if anyone else has tried this with sucess please let us know.

honestly, i think it is worth the $40 to send it to TPIS to do it. they did a nice job and for a total of $50 or so with shipping, find me another mod that will get you almost .2 for that price.

Thanks all for the sound advice. Yes, I do need more air flow. It just seems like something is restricting the whole thing. I'm also going to invest in a bigger throttle body, and perhaps some larger runners. If I still don't get the right results I'm going to scrap the whole stock TPI and go with a mini ram. That should get me down into the times I'm looking for. Man, what's with this curse, this need for more power and speed anyway??
