I need Help badly :)
Hello everyone,
I just bought a 87 camaro RS with a 305 Carb engine in it. I am troubled with the problems of the "ricers" in my town and feel its time they challenged by someone other than my friend who has a 77 Z28 pushing 475HP. I need to know the cheapest ways to get HP in this car. I'm not a rich man so i need cheap and somewhat easy ways. Thanks fot your time.

The first thing i'd do is put an open element air filter on it. I did that to my 91 RS and felt a big difference and it only cost about $14. =) It also got rid of some of the clutter under the hood. Next i'd look into a cam and a new PROM.
I'm not sure what it does, I'll ask him tomorrow. But its only flaw is it's purple
I'll ask him tomorro and post it. Do you know what I should set the timing to? And im probably gonna buy a open element air filter from K&N friday. I'll let ya know how that goes.

If it's a stock engine head etc. Go with about 6 degrees base timing and run on the "good stuff." Lots of people have been doing this with the Lo3. I've been here for a while now and I haven't heard any TBI guy say he's had problems with power or gas milage after turning up the base timing a little. Of course a custom chip would be better but I don't think that's as cheap as just advancing a little.
There is a guy on the TBI board that is running 13's with a 125hp shot of N2o. He's got a stock Lo3.

I've got a LG4 which is rumored to be slow as hell. I'm trying to beef it up. So ill try the timing by 6 deg. and do a little carb modification. Next step im gonna buy a new intake manifold and flow master exhaust sys. I cant get the open air filter element. The sys i got now the snorkle has hoses and vacum stuffs coming out of it and i dont know what to do with them.

Throw the snorkel away. Plug any vacuum hose(s) coming off the engine.
The PCV breather your gonna have to fabricate to the new OEAC.
If you don't know what your doing, ask your buddy with the fast car to lend a hand.

I can help you on this one. I have dealt with these P.O.S. carbs lots. You need to ditch that cam. It has 176deg intake duration and 194deg exhaust duration at .050. The .3" lift does not help much either. If you just put in a MILD cam, some gear, and an exhaust (headers and cat back), you will really pick up. My 82 had that motor in it, but the previous owner ran it without oil, Nuff said. If you can affor it, get those heads ported and enlarge the intake valve to a 1.94". I was able to pace that vette to 150MPH with the stock E4ME Q-jet, so leave it alone. OH also put an Edelbrock performer-EGR on it too. Definitely advance the timing. The factory sets the initail timing to Zero! The computer only gives you 20deg of additional advance. This may seem like a lot of stuff, but it is more time than money (if you bolt it in yourself).
