Turbochargers; Will any old TC work?

Yeah I like the idea of a turbocharged 305 TBI. If I made everything myself and only bought the turbo with hoses and clamps, What would I need to replace? I saw a used TC online for some 600-odd dollars. How much would I expect to find a GOOD turbocharger for, used of course? Is it possible to find any around $500? Junkyard?

I have the urge to turbocharge my bird

Not to be rude, but go and buy some books. Turbocharging your car isn't exactly a weekend, bolt-on task. Do a search on here about it and you will find TONS of info. Within that info there will be a few books that have been recomended. Those books will be able to tell you the size and type of turbo you need and all sorts of other fun stuff. Research is the key with TC. Good luck.

If your looking for a turbo I have New Schwin turbo nerver used that flows over 1500cfms and has Little lag due to split housing design. It even come with instrustions how turbocharge a tune port small block chevy engine runnig at 700hp at 14psi and 900ft. With a mild cam and head!!!!!

All for 225 plus shipping!!!
Why take a chance on a used turbo! That will break in a few months and will be to small for even the smallest of V6's..

You have to have them on the web somewhere. You can just post links. If you dont have a web page, e-mail them to me and I'll post them for you. Take some pictures of those directions also.

OneEye,

Omega is right. You should first get as much information about the basics of turbocharging a car before you dive in and buy a TC. There are many ways to apply a TC to your car and depending on how much boost your looking for, can greatly determine the FMS (Fuel MAnagement System) that needs to be used for that appliocation. You don't just throw a 14psi TC in your engine compartment and expect to get instant 700hp without the proper FMS. Do your home work!

Yes, that is a good point. But the instrustion about turbocharging a tpi engine are included. THis is a Documention that gives all dimentions on building your own headers and turbo selection plus it also tells you how to tune a DFI system!!!
It tells you Everything you want to know with Real pics and the costs of the instalion along the way.
To bad I cann't post the it on the internet! Its about 30 pages long.
Any seggestions!!
