350 doing 11's
350 doing 11's
Okay, I'm still new at this whole car thing, and now I'm on my second camaro. It's a 86 Iroc with a 350 4bbl engine. I am going to get my friends 350 and rebuild it, then swap. I need to know what I should do to make it do 11's in the quarter though. My very rich friend said that he would give me $10,000 if I got it done. Oh ye of little faith. Please help me accomplish this goal.

BLOWER BABY, BLOWER!!
If I can do it with my 305, you can definitely do it with a 350.
Make sure you get that in writing!! You'll be 10k richer if you do.

Can I still get a blower if it's carbed?
Also I have a 750 cfm Holley, Edelbrock Intake and a Fireball cam that I am going to use on the engine.

yes you certainly can, they refer to them as roots, lll reccomend a good 11's combo first off being rebuilt l assume youll change the intake and everything ok start with 4 bolt main conversion, forged rotating assembly crank, rods, pistons, 8 1/2:1 compression or so, bore it out to a 355 (.30 over) a good supercharger compatible cam check out crane for that, good high-perf lifters, rockers, valve springs, a good set of high flow heads, 420 megablower, two 650 4bbl carbs
and since you got money to burn pretty much, you dont need to use a sawzall to cut a hole in the hood
trans work l'd reccomend a good TH400 trans that will require a conversion kit, and a good ford 9 inch rearend with 4.11-4.56 ring & pinion. now lm bein real general here, but that should get you pretty darn close to 11's with a good pair of slicks...... and although it wont be a real gas saver-l'd say it'd be pretty streetable assuming you dont drive in the rain

My way was 9.7:1 forged pistons, 650 mechanical Holley, Sportsman Pro heads, ZZ-9 cam, 3" dual exhaust, 3.73 gears, 27" Hoosier Quicktimes, still got the 700r4, stock posi diff with a support cover, and 175 shot of N2O.

Dude ! 11's on a budget ? definitely go with spray. a cheater kit is like 3 bills, my friend ran a 355 in a 79 Z that runs 11.40's on the motor! his bottom end wasnt a dipped in gold deal every body says you need. quick run down. 355 11.5:1 forged ,AFR 190, BILL MITCHELL 750,.565/.570 (cant remember the duration)250&.050? 106 LSA,3" duals, 3800 stall th350 , 4.10 gears. this dude wasnt made out of money, but is a great tech. this car has been running for 4 yrs now without any breakage, with a 125 shot it ran 1.52 r/t and 7.05 @107mph.
good luck bro thats just my .o2

This is just my opinion... no flames please!
I would go with forced induction (i.e. turbocharger or supercharger). If youre on a budget, get a centrifugal blower (Paxton, Vortech, ATI, Powerdyne, etc). I'd get an intercooled ATI kit, mainly because their kits come with air-to-air intercoolers. You will either have to convert your car to serpentine belt, or get the "universal" kit from ATI.
The reason I say get the centrifugal blower instead of a roots blower (B&M, WEIAND, etc) is because of the following facts...
1- Centrifugals are more efficient (mechanically and thermally).
2- No need to cut a hole in the hood.
3- Not as much as a "dead giveaway".
4- emissions compliance(?). We know that the Roots blower isnt gonna pass any emissions test, especially when they do the visual inspection!
Now, I would stay away from nitrous because...
1- If it isnt tuned right... bye bye engine!
2- If there is a failure in the fuel system, bye bye engine!
3- If you dont use it properly, bye bye engine!
4- If youre racing someone and the bottle goes dry, bye bye money!
5- When you have to refill the bottle, bye bye money!
6- If you lie and say theres no nitrious on the car and your competitors find out, bye bye future races for a while!
7- If you get caught by Johnny Law with nitrous in the car, bye bye car!
Get it? Got money to get your car out of the impound? LOL!
BTW... they do make blow-through carb kits! You dont need EFI to run a Procharger!

The only thing I changed for the nitrous was the forged pistons instead of hypers. I knew I could get a bigger shot out of forged. As long as you tune it properly nitrous is your friend.

Man you don't even need a power adder for that. Get a set of tfs 23 degree heads a beefy cam and a stout bottom end. get a set of 456 gears and a 6 speed. drop the clutch on slicks at 6000 rpm and there you go 11's. if that is not enough spray in a 200 shot and go 10's.

Is nitrous illegal? What Jaydubb said about NOS led me to draw this conclusion, why else would a cop impound your car if you had NOS?

No nitrous is not illegal and nor is it illegal to have it in your car....at the MOST they'll just check if the bottle is off and that I even doubt they'll do.....obviously they frown on you using it on the street mainly because you have to be at WOT to engage it if your smart and at WOT on the street you'll probably (most likely) be flying...not good when going by an esteemed upholder of the law...

Armed= bottle valve open.
I was just reading an article that Georgia is busting chops for just having the bottle. I guess NOS is the "root" of all their street racing problems! Yeah right! I can see the HAZMAT deal, cause some states have tunnels, but just having a bottle and getting a ticket is BS.

You don't even need forced induction or spray to get into the 11's. I should be there the next time at the track and I still have the stock 350 bottom end.

By the time he gets done getting to the 11s he'll be lucky to break even. The cheapest way I know is 9 inch slicks and as much nitrous that you can fit in one car. I'd blow up a stocker for 10 g's. Hot Rod ran a junk yard 318 into the 12's I think like that.

A well documented n/a combo that will put a 3200 pound car into the 11's could consist of a 350 with AFR 195's, Victor Jr intake, 850 carb, 1 3/4 headers and a 240/245 @.050 roller with .550 lift. Spin it to 6500-7000 rpm and see 500+ hp. For use with 3000+ stall converter and 4.11 gears and slicks.
