off the shelf TT headers?

I got a pair of GN turbos and am looking for a set of off the shelf headers that you have welded a turbo flange on the end to run them. I have heard 97 pickup truck headers flipped upside down, but was looking for pics or any other thoughts.

Re: off the shelf TT headers?

yeah as far as i know the easiest way is to use the truck shorty's though from what i 've see, making you're own doesnt look too hard..i thought about doing some log style using these...should be easily done in an afternoon....

Re: off the shelf TT headers?

Didn't really want to make the log style, guess I'll be leaning towards the truck shorty's just wondering which part number people used and some pics. Plus those header flange kits are the same price as the truck shorty's. Don't think the weight of the turbos will be a problem since I'm building support brackets off each cylinder head bolt holes to alleviate some of the stress of the turbo weight.

Re: off the shelf TT headers?

these s-10/blazer ones look like they would work good accept they only are 1 1/2 primaries

the 96-99 truck headers will work well, These ones from edelbrock look promising, though im sure you can call them and get them uncoated for cheaper thatn $300.
----------
and these hedman shorties with 1 5/8 will work too they are $250

Re: off the shelf TT headers?

I wonder how the vette shorties would work in a TT setup. Not sure if there's enough space back there to run my downpipes off the turbos with those primaries in the way. I appreciate the ideas though, turbomustang.com didn't have much in the way of suggestions either.

Yeah, I see what you are saying now, the pass side looks good, but the driver's side would be a bit tight. junkcltr modified the stock manifolds to have the turbos at the front of each bank.

If I were you, I would just modify the headers you have to work, you could actually make the flanges in post#2 by cutting them and using the left over primary tubes.

Re: off the shelf TT headers?

Actually the headers I have now are going to buddy in exchange for letting me use his lift during this swap at his shop for a bit this winter. I can't think of anyone on these boards that has a TT setup that could answer this for me, I am keeping my non-A/C box as well, so some space back on the firewall will be used up for that.

ttypecamaro, junkcltr are two that I have had quite a few conversations with and can think of off the top of my head. There are at least three more that i have seen here in the pwoer adder forum. trbo355, and a few others...

They fixed the search!!

I used to have a bunch of your pics that you PM'd me. My welds on mild are looking that good now. What SS did you use, 304, 316 etc?

What size primaries? Has anyone tried to see if they hit the motor mounts if flipped side to side? They look good if they miss the motor mounts.......

Re: off the shelf TT headers?

...Just something to consider ....

I am by means no authority on turbo's , etc . But to me getting off the shelf headers and converting them to twin turbo manifolds sounds like it's doomed to fail.... the thickness of the pipeing isn't enough ...just my $0.02.
Anyone ?

Yes and no. With N/A headers, you can get away with thinner walls, along with using less expensive 304 SS. True. However, as long as the turbos are supported properly, they are going to be less likely to crack.
