static turbo compression

what the most static compression you'd want and still be able to put boost to a motor and be worth doing it? i'm still gett'n my motor together and still have time to change a few things. I got flat top pistons and .042 head copper head gaskets putting me at 11.6-12.0:1. I know with the heads i got and the deepish dished pistons (shelf piston) available from JE the lowest i can get is 9.8:1

Re: static turbo compression

9:1 is about the limit when you want any amount of usable boost
Your heads are wayyyyy too small for a boosted engine. Might as well put it together as a NA motor, maybe a bit of nitrous.

Re: static turbo compression

how much nitrous can you use if static compression ratio is 11:6.1?

Re: static turbo compression

Go to a .057 head gasket and have the chambers opened up a bit. as for a limit it would depend on the tolerance of the motor. Aluminum heads help a liottle more with detonation.

Get it down to 9.5 to 1 or so and run good fuel(or an alcohol kit) and you'll be fine......

plenty of people running boost with high 9's static.

My last TTA had a little over 9 to 1 with iron heads.(GN pistons with the smaller TTA heads).

Re: static turbo compression

well a typical pro mod motor runs compression as high as 16:1 and they spray arround 1000 hp shot. so that is a loded question.
on my 355 i spray 225 and have sprayed 275 on 12.4:1 pistons. no delay

Re: static turbo compression

measured them out just to double check myself and they came out 48.5-49 cc. me not thinkin... go figure...when mock'n up the motor the piston was down in the hole about .022. (changed blocks). i should of left it there. i had it milled to flat

Re: static turbo compression

what kind of heads are they . 18deg. thats a tiny chamber if they are 23 deg i would worry about valve shrouding problems. you still would need arround a -36cc dish to get to low 10s high 9s.

Re: static turbo compression

they're Air Flow Research heads. they were milled at factory to bring compression up on the stock motor to mid 10's. came in a kit from that was setup by lingenfelter performance in mid/late 90's purchased through tpis. at least thats what i understand. the kit came on the car when i bought it. they're cnc ported intake and exhast. cnc chambers. im a dealer for profiler heads so im debating on gett'n me a set of those and sell'n these AFR's

Re: static turbo compression

the only problem with them now would be if they were angel milled that much you would not be able to run as much camshaft.
