How ya doin guys.im fairly new to this forum and to be honest searching it confuses the hell out of me. ive got a 1987 z28 camaro that im building this winter and depending on what i do with my college situation ive got a few directions id been lookin at. id love any opinions you guys can offer cause there are a lot of experienced mechanics here. first question i have is at the moment i have a 355 sbc 882 heads luinati brakit master 2 .515 .515 lift cam with a edelbrock 600. my only concern is the camshaft has an operating range of 2500 to 6500. not im building this mainly for street. do u guys think this cam will work well? and with all this what kind of hp do u think i can expect? my next question is ive been looking into boosting my maro and i was just wondering what path u guys would recomend a single turbo set up or a 144 supercharger? and will that supercharger clear a daytona style hood without cutting a hole in it? thanks for ur time and i look forward to ur opinions!

that lunati cam is of old lobe technology...very lazy ramp rates but probably still way too much cam for your 882 heads. The edelbrock carb i don't know about...don't use them or know nobody who does, myself and all my gear head buddies use holley double pumpers and dominators. As for getting some boost, the "easiest" way is probably the weiand 144 roots blower you mentioned....nitrous is the ultimate bang for your buck but the bottle runs out unfortunately, that why i'm going turbo

well problem is im a college kid and building on a very limited budget. the turbo is a good amount cheaper then the 144 and the power gains are greater so its win win. as far as nitrous im dead set against the stuff. it destroys motors and like u said it runs out. i want a motor thats there when i need it and not just when i got my bottle full. im deffinatly leanin turbo and i now realize the cam i have aint to great for my set up. thanks for ur 2 cents and let me know more about ur tubo build leep

If you are on a limited budget i wouldn't go forced induction. It's not cheap, period. You can do it cost effectively, but not cheap. Any cam will "work" with FI, will it take full advantage of the blower is the question. Need alot more info on the cam, (duration, LSA, overlap etc) to know if it will work well with FI.

one of my previous posts towards the top has the link to the cam. nitrous does destroy engines. all the abuse affects is how fast it destroys them. and i know forced induction isnt cheep thats why im just gathering info and researching now. im prolly gunna spend a good part of the next year buying chassis and suspension mods to hold the turbo so it doesnt twist my frame of just spin non stop.

That is like a morbidly obese person blaming McDonald for making them fat, Or someone saying, the gun killed the person not me. You pulled the trigger.
If you tune correctly and build for nitrous you can run TONS of it with out adversly effecting an engine. I used to fill my 10lb bottle at least once if not twice WEEKLY in my old 350. I Ran at minimum a 125 shot, up to 150-175 when I had AV gas in it. I bet I filled my Bottle 100 times before my car was stolen. **** I used to just hit the jug on a freeway entry ramp for the hell of it on my way to work in the morning if I had any thing left in it from the weekend.
So again I state, people trash engines, Nitrous does not.

building for nitrious is the same as building for a good fi set up. no offense to u nitrious people but i want a car with a motor not a car with a little funny gas. yeah good bang for ur buck and good for the commited dragsters but mines a street car that will see a stripe now and again but is mainly for street. ive watched to many people trash motors and ur right is in ur itchy switch finger not the motor but again whats the point in having the power if i cant use it anytime i want. no probs u didnt jack anything and i respect ur opinion towards nitrous im just not for it

Yea that cam is definitely an N/A cam, with that kinda LSA and not being a split duration I bet it has alot of valve overlap for cylinder scavenging. Definitely going to want to swap cams if you go with a blower. I bet that thing sounds mean and lope's like a big dog though!
I personally think nitrous is awesome for a mostly street driven/occasional track car. You can set the motor to make great N/A power for running around and have a nice shot of the giggle gas when you are at the track or having fun on a saturday night. I respect your choice to not use nitrous, just kinda burns me when people bag on nitrous. I have ran it in 3 cars without any engine damage. Did burn the electrode of a spark plug once because my fuel pressure wasn't sufficient to run a 200 shot. Engine started to miss, scared the **** out of me. No damage though luckily.

That cam will have crap for low end torque, you will need to wind the engine up to ridiculous RPM, meaning shift at like 6700. I am sure it's meant for a single plane intake. That cam is more suited for larger cube motor, say a built 400 with some heads the breath very well. Definitely not a "street" cam for a 350.

FWIW my twin setup fabbed by me using all new parts but cheaper turbos cost me closer to 3300-3500 all said and done. Motor to handle this setup was MUCH more than this however. If you have a mild but fresh 355 then a single small turbo like a T70 would work great and be very budget minded. Probly fab up a good single system for under 2000 bucks including turbo. I know I could, maybe even 1500 bucks if buying budget/used goods at times.
