Single Turbo on Bone Stock IROC questions
Ok, so I'm thinking about building a homebuilt single turbo system on my TPI 350 IROC. Everything else on the car is bone stock. What I need to know before I start is what will I need to make this work with the computer and TPI? I know I'll need an FMU to increase fuel pressure with boost. But, will I need anything else? Like tuning, chip, injectors?? I'm only planning to make 6 - 8 psi. Thanks
Oh, and as far as HP increase.... I was told that becasue of the design of the TPI manifold I should only expect to see a 50 - 75HP gain from doing this. Any truth to that?? I'm not looking to set the world on fire but a 100HP gain would be nice...

Anyone?? Are my questions dumb or has noone really ever done this on a bone stock car?

Wait more than just 1 hour before wondering why you got no response & posting again. Most people are at work & don't surf, unlike the kids that are home from school. It may take a couple of days to get responses.

Sorry, I didn't catch the am/pm. So.....Half a day?
I know there are bolt-on aftermarket supercharger kits, so putting a turbo shouldn't be too far off, as long as the boost is kept low enough.
Still chip tuning & such, I'm sure.

Yes, it has been done to a stock 350ci TPI. Multiple builds here documenting all of it will be obtained with a simple search.
Re: Single Turbo on Bone Stock IROC questions
I supppose a FMU references boost(manifold pressure) and changes fuel flow. An alternative would be to use a ECU that can handle boost and not use the FMU. I assume pros/cons on each.

I did do a search but I wasn't able to find anybody that didn't have other mods aswell. Like injectors, Megasquirt, ect... IDK, maybe I just can't read or suck at searching...lol. Sorry, I know its annoying to keeping answering the same questions over & over....

Re: Single Turbo on Bone Stock IROC questions
So, of those two options, which one would be the best/most cost effective way to go? And what ECU would I use? Sorry for all the newbie questions, I just recently bought the car and I'm just starting to learn about the TPI system. I've always been a carb guy in the past...

If I were a carb guy wanting to boost my first stock EFI 350ci TPI engine I would run the following:
Megasquirt MS-II (for ease of tuning vs cost)
Ford 42#/hr green top injectors
Walbro 255 LPH fuel pump
Ebay/China 24x12x3 intercooler
60mm inducer turbo
Homemade log manifolds or equiv or SSAC single turbo setup

Re: Single Turbo on Bone Stock IROC questions
Stock 144k mile Iroc here.. the hp figures you posted are pretty close to what you'll see with 6-8 psi. I'm running 10 psi with no intercooler but if I limited the boost to 8 psi and turned up my timing I'd see the same power (I gotta get my boost control solenoid installed some day). With that 10 psi I'm putting down 270 rwhp and 380 rwtq. Figuring on an 18% drive train loss, that's 330 hp and 460 ft lbs tq at the crank.
So yeah, about 100 hp and 130 ft lbs over stock with 8-10 psi. That's a little over 40% power gain from stock.

What year is the car? If it is 90+ then it has a decent ECM to start tuning with, but the learning curve is still steep.
