2.8 Turbo/Super?
I have a little 2.8 V6 sitting under my hood... It doesn't put out much power... Anyone know of a lower cost turbo kit or supercharging kit? 135HP isn't enough for me, and I have so much room.
Cheers

Re: 2.8 Turbo/Super?
i am the original author of that thread and deff have some advice to offer.
if u have the ability and skills to weld i suggest u build a log header on the passenger side
while the under k member style turbo setup does work its far from being real good,it is fine for somone who would want a nice 100 rwhp boost and can even be pushed to around and extra 200 rwhp
when i built that setup the goal was just to get the car turbochared
with an auto trans with stock gears and converter it will be a bit laggy from a dead stop but anything from a 30+ mph roll will generally generate full boost in a hury
in that thread it also says u can get away with a 350 tpi injectors swap ad not need any tunning, which on a 2.8 based maf car will work
afr's will be a lil rich during idle and cruise but under boost u will see 12.0 -12.3 afrs
while that does work its far from being optimal and it leaves alot of power on the table
i highly suggest that u look into either tunning the stock ecm, amember in the v6 section blc has written some code for the maf based 2.8 ecm for boost u could contact him for more info
ur other option would be an aftermarket ecm i.e megasquirt bs3 fast accell etc
and btw im not saying the under k member style system wont work, but like i said if u have the ability u can build a much better system for the same price check out these links one is my updated build, and another is pilsburys build that i built a turbo system for with the help of pils and deadbird both members of thirdgen
here is pilsburys build
https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/v6/5...my-3-4-t3.html
and mine
well not exactly a build thread but it does have pics of my newer turbo headers
if u build ur own i deff suggest doing the style i did on pilsburys car

Re: 2.8 Turbo/Super?
Thanks man! Other than a turbo, what kind of work would it take to put a supercharger in it instead? What kind would I look at?

Re: 2.8 Turbo/Super?
u could do a remote mount m90 step which would require you to make ur own brackets to mount the m90, the only other thing i could see working would be a a p600b supercharger and having a bracket made up to have it bolt to the front of the engine.
to be honest though turbos have been done, superchagers havent been done on the v6 yet so u will find alot more info on turboing it, as well as it is prolly cheaper to do

Re: 2.8 Turbo/Super?
No way that turbocharging will be cheaper unless there are cheap, available manifolds... for that on a 2.8...
Sounds like you just gave enough incentive to go with supercharging...

Something tells me he may be the builder.
As long as we're linking things, here's the '165 ecm swap & Power Adder 6E.

Re: 2.8 Turbo/Super?
Just a thought or two
A)The Venture 3.4L makes 215HP or so. That's 80hp.
B)A stock Grand National turbo can be had for under 200 (I got a pair for 225 that are VERY tight) and would probably be good for a little over 300HP if your engine could take it. Throw a set of stock GN injectors in that engine, couple it with a tune and you've got a lot of fun for very little money if you can fabricate. Get a set of GTP 36lb/hr injectors or a set of Cobra 42s and go even further.
C)The 6 leaves plenty of room to fit an intercooler between the rad and the engine. Not optimal but the TTAs and the Buicks did this so I don't see it being a huge deal breaker.
D)If you got the MAP 1227730 ECU you can run Code 59 on it. Since some of the V6 F-bodies used this box it shouldn't be a difficult swap.
E)Look for some FWD manifolds, there is a very good chance that you can find a set that will cross over and have a common outlet making it easy to route a pipe to the turbo.
Overall I like the idea honestly. It could be a fun beater car. I don't necessicarily think you have to pull any of the smog gear, except maybe the smog pump. Even that may not be a deal breaker if it's post turbo injected.
