question about nitrous on 350?

ok i have a chevy 350 in my 84 camaro and im thinking about some nitrous just for fun but i have a few questions

#1 how bug of a shot is safe to use on it like 50,75,100,150????
#2 will the cam i have hurt the performance using the nitrous (i have a big comp cam)
#3 i have a carbed engine with the fuel pump on the block for a wet system do i just splice into the fuel line after the pump for the fuel for the nitrous setup or do i need to switch to an in tank pump

heres some specs
350 5.7 fresh rebuild
comp cam i dont remember the specs but it sounds just like one of those thumper cams
roller rockers
holley 650 double pumper and a performer RPM intake
and my trans and rear end is nothing to worry about i had them built up for the last engine over 700HP so im not worried about those

i just wanna know what would be safe to run in it

Re: question about nitrous on 350?

comp cams N20 cam 218/230 @ .05 113 LSA. Good for up to 100-150 shot. So the lsa is increased a bit and the ext duration is moved higher. My computer cam is 224/230 .05 with 114 LSA. I run N20 but at 75 HP only cause I started last summer using it.

you prob need a larger fuel pump.

camshafts aren't really that important unless you intend on spraying a lot... like 250+HP. With a good ignition and fuel system I'd say that you could safely run upwards of 200HP through a stock 350 short block reliably.

Re: question about nitrous on 350?

I run my fuel to N20 off the fuel pressure reg. fuel in and three ports out plus the return to tank. One port is for TBI unit one is for N20 unit and the third is fuel pressure reg.

My ECU controls EFI and N20. I run a stock Delco TPI pump but it was there when I installed N20. If I ever need to upgraqde I might consider a LT1 pump. Right now I am quite rich on N20 fuel jetting at 75HP but not sure if my FP can handle any more HP till I rejet and am comfortable with N20 use.

Go to NOS website and read up on recommendations for use.

Re: question about nitrous on 350?

so it would be a good idea to switch to a electric pump and use fuel pressure reg with 3 ports 1 for carb 1 for N20 and one for return for setting it up vs the mechanical pump

Re: question about nitrous on 350?

you are carb. I dont know much about carb. I think you need to look at fuel requirement of 100 HP jet plus current engine requirements. I think NOS/NX other MFG's has info on their site that may help. That reg I use is like $140 and is EFI.

You need to locate a forum that may be more N20 carb directed. Chevy Talk may be one.

You also have to consider retarding you timing plus cooler spark plugs

Re: question about nitrous on 350?

it all depends on your pump is it high output or not? if if your pump is capable of delivering enough fuel to both then you need to tee after the pump cus you need pressure to the selonoid. if you dont get enough fuel to the selonoid you'll go lean and the motor wont like it depending on your nitrous shot.

Re: question about nitrous on 350?

so as long as i have a high output mechanical pump i should be able to do it fine also whats better direct port Nitrous injection or using the carb plate spray bar ?

Re: question about nitrous on 350?

For a 100 shot of nitrous the carb plate is enough.
