Firebird FMIC options?
sometimes i dwell too much on things...
It took me 3 years to finally put my turbo on after i had all the parts together. and it went together in about 2 days with NO hangups.
I put it together without and intercooler because i dreaded the install and hadn't seen ANY on the web that weren't full race.
Tonight I took the upper front facia support (hood latch area) off and looked down in there and think i have plenty of room for a pretty good sized intercooler (31x12) after i take the condenser out.
I may have to move the top of the radiator out 1inch. Cut notches in the side radiator supports and then put 2 90degree couplers on either side of the radiator. It doesn't look like I'll have to move the battery at all.
I don't think i'll have to move the big X bracket in front of the radiator either (not doing anything anyway since i hit that deer and 2 bolts are broken) and if i do it will only be an inch or so.
Anybody have any input on Firebird intercoolers? those pop up lights really make it hard to run pipe.
I'm looking at a EBAY bar plate 31x12x3. any input on those?
I'll order it next friday and take some pics.
thanks!

I run my two three inch outlets on the bottom, both up into the battery tray locations, the fmic sits at a 45 deg angle and fits perfect with everything.

You can run 2 small air to air intercoolers like how procharger does their twin intercooler kit on firebirds. Thats a possibility and should handle the cooling demand

Re: Firebird FMIC options?
thanks for the pics and ideas!
I was looking at that same IC 31x12(overall). I don't have a tranny cooler or a/c so i was going to mount it flush to the radiator with the in/outlets at the top and sneak the pipes between the radiator and side supports.
I may spray some washer fluid in too depending on the results. I haven't told my wife how much we're getting back from taxes yet

I mounted my intercooler in front of the radiator. It's 30x12x3 overall and fits perfect. There are pictures on my cardomain that show it from the sides.

i like how yours went in on the passenger side, but why did you go out around the battery on drivers side? i want to bring it between the radiator and battery if i can. You said it's a 30" is that core size or total length? My radiator measures 31 inches, your IC looks like it's a bit longer than your radiator? I just want to make sure my measurements are correct.

Re: Firebird FMIC options?
I went around the outside of the battery tray on the drivers side because there wouldn't have been enough space to go between the radiator and battery when you account for the radius of the bend in the tubing. My intercooler is 30" end tank to end tank, so it's 1" narrower than the radiator.

Re: Firebird FMIC options?
what sucks is that i owed them $225 from last year because we got a w2 late on an investment and by the time they caught it i was having some financial trouble so I was going to make a payment 2 months ago and never got through. Now they'll hold my up for my couple grand because of a $225 balance.... AHHHH. and i dropped my 150lb 32in tv and broke it yesterday(almost crushed a child too).

Re: Firebird FMIC options?
I love what you did for the lower radiator support, gave me a few ideas. How did the $100 ebay intercooler work out for you? I'm running a GReddy Intercooler in my GTA, but I bought the same Intercooler off of ebay for my '84 TA and was curious to see where your air temps were....
Thx, did it to get more room for my 12rib and spring loaded tensioner. Also so I could keep my AC.
Will have to check some old loggs for the Airtemp.
Re: Firebird FMIC options?
3rd gens have it easy
Lean the radiator back and cut out the two thin vertical supports

Build small block-offs so air doesnt go around the rad/IC setup

Re: Firebird FMIC options?
3" tubing up to the TB, then its 4" for a short bit after the MAF
Original bypass was a bosch piece from a porsche. I found that on ebay for $50, came with several springs to adjust pressure. The smallest is just right
Thanks. Ill be posting in the bigger blower thread in a week or two with decent progress. Same FMIC, 3" plumbing for it too
